I am now back home after a 2 month vacation. (I got to stay in a friend's apartment while he was gone) Anyway, the price of such time off is having to play catch up when it is over. Not to mention that October is high school marching band competition season, so every Saturday will be taken up. I'll try to enter and check in, but that may not happen!
Dave, still a good score, and lots of time for a rebound. |

Only the portfolio ones.....the challenge images will still be there.
I'll miss her realism in spite of her talent & beauty.
She is such a NICE person!
Originally posted by snaffles: Wow, Jeb, that looks like an amazing lens. Maybe if I win the lottery I'll add it to my collection - I don't know if I could just trade in all my other lenses! |
Well, I'm just in to work after spending about 45 minutes at one of my favorite spots to shoot.
I am really amazed at the difference between this lens and my Tamron 28-300.
The speed of focusing, the sureness(?) of the way it grabs focus, that little extra wide angle (18 vs.28), and just the overall build quality is just night and day different. And it's VERY quiet!
I really didn't use my other lenses much anyway, but now I don't even WANT any other lenses. Yeah, if I get a real windfall someday, I'd buy a bunch of specialized, stupid expensive glass, (RIGHT after that D3, LOL!!!), but other than maybe saving up for a little better body (The ol' D70s has about 40K actuations by my calculations), I'm a pretty happy camper. Anybody that knows me at all knows that I patently refuse to lug around a camera bag full of stuff.
Another thing.......my D70s is pretty heavy.....I've always affectionately called it The Brick........now with this lens, it's REALLY heavy. Thing is, since I'm such a big guy in the first place, it's actually seeming to be easier to hold it still.
And for the first time EVER, I'm getting shots that are clean at 200mm. That was one complaint I had with the Tamron....I got NO decent shots at the end of the range except with a tripod. I didn't much care for the constant reminder that I'm old and shaky! LOL!!!
I can't wait to get home and process these images!
A final note......I just bought a medium speed 8GB CF card for $59.95....the very first card that I bought when I got my camera was a 1GB card.....and it cost me $89.95!!! Gotta love that!!

When you go from membership to registered your portfolio remains online unless you request otherwise. |

Really? I thought it was the way Jeb stated, that obviously your challenge shots will stay online but your optional portfolio ones wouldn't.
If portfolio space is one of the things you get with membership then it would make sense that it disapears when your membership payment does. I also remember the discussions about DPC being nice and allowing the portfolios of some deceased members to stay online even after their paid up status expired. This would not have been necessary then?
Not bitching, just asking. lol

It usually stays there but is hidden from view. If the member re-ups, their portfolio is reinstated. The member can ask to have it removed, though. |

I can't believe I'm still hanging in there. I'm afraid to post it in the scores thread, because it would go down to a 4 overnight, lol.

Way to go Kelli! My very first ever FS score sucking along so bad I don't even have a comment. And can't remember last time anyone faved a shot. :-(
On a happier note, It's Lily's 6th birthday today! I got her a feather toy which she just LOVES, and was also lucky enough to find (relatively) inexpensive treats that she will eat. |

I've just spent about a million years editing a shot for work before realising it was basic editing. D'oh!

Any chance some sane TS member can talk me out of entering my most oobie shot ever which I am considering for Play? I love the shot, but because I am in the DPCO III I do not really want to take the brown and bring my team mates down with me. lol
Can someone give me an opinion please?

I cannot believe how much I love my new lens.
I just submitted a shot for the October Free Study that has very little editing.
What an incredible lens this is for me!

Excellent Jeb! I'm hoping by this time next year I can save enough for a 100-400. I love my 28-135 IS, but I'm hating my Tamron 28-300 right now. I really need that IS and the reach for the stuff I like to shoot.
Speaking of loving something, I'm still loving my score...

looks like my dream of a 6+ score in Pjs has been sucked down to a high 5. But at least i have had several comments and 2 favs. From the comments it seems everyone likes my model more than the pjs, no one has commented on the pjs and only one made a comment about the photos quality. Guess its an example of DMC totally. But i like the shot and thats what counts |

Wow way to go Kelli, keep it up!
Ernie, I'm around for most of the day today if you want to pm me the pics.
Plan to shoot for Grimm but as always am trying to do a story that hasn't won't have been shot to death. May have to make a set. No ideas at all yet for Work or Play. |
