Here are some football pics from tonight taken with the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 I traded for earlier in the week. Turned out pretty good for bad highschool lighting.

I would love to know what you think.....

No post processing except adjust brightness a little and then resized to upload.
Taken at 1/180 sec, f/2.8, ISO 800, exposure bumped up 2.

I like it when a plan comes together. You did a nice job with the new glass.

Looks like a pretty good piece of glass. Of course, 1/180 sec is a bit too slow for some of the action shots, but that is the pitfall of that lighting situation. Overall, not bad.

You've got some really good compositions and captures there. I would recommend not shooting less than 1/250 or 1/300 with HS guys. Heck, I can't hardly go under 1/200 with 8 year olds and they move a lot slower. Also, try ISO 1600.

With the faster shutter speed, you will have to brighten more in post processing, which adds to the overall time involved, but it really makes a big difference.

Basically, what I do for my night shots is *screen* a layer a couple of times and hit it with noise reduction. If I need to screen again, I will.

I am shooting for the parents and they want crisp, clean and close

I went through the photos. There were quite a few that have potential. But you really need to either keep the shutter speed up. Or use a speedlight to stop the action, or both. 1/180th is slower then I would shoot any sport out there, except that one time when I shot a chess match, and that could have been shot at 1/5th tripod mounted LOL.

My recommendations are this.

Either shoot low ISO with speedlight start your settings at F2.8 1/250th SS ISO 800. If you are still getting motion blur lower the ISO. Your light should be 2 stops above ambient to stop the action.

Up your ISO, up your shutter speed, and use the flash for fill.

These are shot at 3200ISO 1/500SS F2.8 flash in ETTL -2/3 mounted 20 inches from the lens below the monopod. These are from friday nights game.
