I'm looking at two monitors withing my price range at the moment, the Samsung 2232BW and the LG 2252TR. Does anyone own one of these or can anyone give some first hand experience? The reviews seem to give both great scores, but they're all done by gamers and DVD freaks... I'm a photoshop freak :P.

I have the Syncmaster CX226BW. I know it is not what you are looking at now, but I went through the same dilemma. Then I went to Technomart and looked at both. That turned me to Samsung. LG lacks the contrast you can get in Samsung and be careful, LG 'misrepresent' some of the specs that are important to us.. not misrepresent in maybe a legally questionable way, but surely in a way that make them look comparable when they are not. Samsung I recommend highly.

I agree, I've never had a problem with a Samsung brand.

I wouldn't touch LG monitors. Or anything LG as a matter of fact.

LG makes most of the screens out there but the get repackaged under other names.
I've got a samsung that's great and two Acers that work well.
I'd shy away from LG brand myself too...but for no concrete reason.

I don't know about LG making most of the screens out there. I thought it was NEC and Samsung that were the big monitor suppliers. LG is just a name, they don't make their own stuff, it's all contracted out.
LG products I have owned and failed:
A cell phone, bad connection, drops, loss of signal out in the open. Just a bad phone.
CD writer. It stopped working after about 6 months.
CD drives that friends have owned. They break within months of purchase.
LG was created after some company bought Goldstar and a crapload of less than worthy companies who were manufacturing lots of low quality products and they called it LG. No matter how crap is packaged, it's still crap.

I agree completely. My neigbor got an LG big screen TV about 6 or 7 months ago and is on the 3rd one. It keeps crapping out on him. He is ready to ask for his money back.
Stick with the Samsung. |

I have a 42 inch plasma LG, I love it and wouldnt shy away from buying another one. I would however shy away from their monitors because they really lack contrast ratios that make me happy. I'm in the process of buying another monitor and I'm looking to replace the Samsung I'm using and I'm going to get an AOC 22 inch widescreen as it has a 3000:1 contrast ratio. Which is better then most monitors. I'd really like to have 10000:1 but cant afford them.

YEah LG, former electronics brand dujour for K-Mart, is one of the top 2 plasma tv makers. Talk to most high-end a/v nuts and it's LG and Samsung all the way. How well they make monitors I have no idea.

After my Viewsonic 21" P series died some 7months ago, my brother kindly lent me his Mitsubishi 2070SB CRT. A few weeks ago I thought it was suffering the same fate but it was the gfx this time around. During that time knowing I wasn't going to find a CRT like that I decided perhaps the time was to switch, the time to switch to LCD. If you're planning on scrapping the old CRT you've had for so long, that time is so much closer than it ever was. The colors, view angle and response time, even for graphic oriented LCDs is so much better. Anyways, checkout this forum //www.hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=78 If you'll be going for the fastest response time LCD , most likely it is a gaming panel and not highly suited for image editing.
You'll find which LCD panels you should be looking for, especially if you're not ready to spring for either Eizo or Lacie.
Double checking your budget, you might have add an extra 100 or two to get a good photo editing panel. But you'll have a much better idea when it comes to choosing which brand to go with.

I own a 19 inch Samsung monitor, I love it..
I have since become pretty "brand" loyal-- buying a samsung 32 inch LCD for my computer room for my tv-- Looks awesome in HD!
I also bought a simple Upconvert DVD Home theater in the box for the same tv, sounds great for 200 bucks (in a small room).
And even changed my cell phone to the Samsung Hue-- I really like the brand-- no complaints from me..
