Good Evening/Morning/Afternoon,
I am lance corporal vasquez, a very new member to this very established website, I used an e-check to become a member and couldn't wait any longer so i added a month tour with my credit card. i am truely humbled to be a member of such a group of talented individuals (of all ages and talents) and am truely impressed by a few of you, namely the one everyone calls kiwi....i am truely heartbroken that i was not able to become a memeber when i first received my cameras, please if you could take a look at my portfolio and comment on my pictures? no one where i live cares much for photos and i would greatly appreciate some comments on my snapshots/pictures/photographs....i am looking forward to participating in your challenges but will unable to until i get back to my unit, unfortunatly i am deployed to fuji and forgot all my cameras and memory cards.....it is with a very humble and forward looking heart i leave this post and continue on my journey into the world of the dpchallenge website.

I've had a look at your shots. They're mostly snapshots to me with not much attention to the composition, but more a release of your creativity and imagination. You've got a hell of a soft toy thing going on. ; )
I've left comments and look forward to seeing more of your work!

thank you, i didn't even know what composition was until today, to tell the truth, if i were to write a glossary of all the photographic terms i know it would not be a very impressive volume....but i'm learning by the day...my only concern now is not degrading the quality of this site....

Welcome,
Just looked at your shots.
I don't know if you intended this, but the order you have the two cross images in creates an interesting combination. I could see working with them and combining as one image.
While your images at this point are in need of some work (as were and still are many of mine when I first joined) you are showing a view of common objects with an eye that, I think will begin to mature with practice.
Keep safe,
JC

Welcome. For what its worth, these ARE your younger years now, so I'm glad to see you taking advantage.
I like that you seem to feel free to experiment with shooting angles, colors, etc. I think as you look at more photos and study/experiment with composition you'll see how to make those into stronger, more finished images.
When I have a photo with "problem" exposure, I like to play around with the colors, but is seems like a straight negative rarely works. With your "Black Jesus" shot I'd try playing around with the color curves a bit. I agree that the juxtaposition with the "White Christ" photo would make a good diptych (two-panel photo). Maybe with a little better lighting to start with, it would be a good project to re-shoot in a month or two.
One of the best ways to learn about photography is to comment on as many photos as you can -- you'll find yourself figuring out what "works" and why.
Your writing is quite poetic. I look forward to seeing and reading more of your stuff.

welcome lance corporal vasquez! i had a look at your photos and i like your creativity. i'm sure when you're more familiar with the techniques of good photography, you'll produce really great images.

olde dog ... how you gonna feel when you're 30? (said the 36-year-old). There's some stuff going on in your shots that I really like - especially the drinking fountain shot. Of course there's probably a bunch of technical stuff you need to learn, but don'tt let anyone educate you out of what you see.
Have fun here

Welcome to DPC, Lance Corporal Vasquez . Everyone has to start somewhere and the only way to learn and get better is to keep taking pictures and to read about photography (forums, websites, books). I'm still pretty new myself.
I agree with GeneralE and Sher, also, but I would like to add that what I find most helpful is going through completed contests and reading the posts on the images that scored better and/or worse than I had expected. I pay closer attention to the comments left by top scoring members like kiwiness, jjbeguin, dsidwell, etc... (You'll learn their names!) since they obviously know what they are talking about. ;-)
Edit: Yea, and what's this about 21 being 'old'?? Geez, I'm almost 28 - you must think I already have one foot in the grave! :-P
Edit #2: Nothing here to see, move along folks... Coolhar, keep yer mouth shut! :-P ;-) Heheheee....

There is no argueing a good picture takes a good amount of preperation to become a success, that or some amount of good luck....(good natural light) When and how much time do you spend with your camera? I used to take mine everywhere, strapped to my backpack, i even decided to take it swimming with me one day...I used a waterproofing bag that was tested by the navy seals so i thought i had nothing to worrry about...well i was wrong but oh well...i suppose everyone looses a child once in their life...i did however take the picture i wanted (my memory card survived!) i just wanted to know how much time you invest photographing... |
