Has anyone had experience with these two printers (Epson R1900 and Epson 1400)? I'm in the market for a new printer and have never really had a 'good' photo printer (my current printer is a Canon IP3000 that is horrible for photo quality and reliability - it used to be ok but still wasn't great). Comparing prints from the two is there really any noticeable difference? Any comments as to reliability? I've requested a print sample from the R1900 from Epson's website but they don't appear to offer this for the 1400 as well.

Any other recommendations around the $300-$400 price range? Wide format is a must.

Thanks

I have the R1800, the predecessor to the R1900 and can tell you that the prints are awesome.

I can see why you're comparing the 1400 and the 1900. The one difference I see is the inks.

The 1400 is a 6 ink printer.

The R1900 has 8 inks with 6 or 7 being used at a time depending on the paper being used. It has two black inks, one for matte and one for glossy prints and what is called gloss optimizer which is only used when printing on gloss type paper.

To compare the printers I would compare the inks as all other things are pretty much equal.

Here's the side by side comparison (from epson):

Don't remember if I asked last time cpanaioti but how are the B&W prints from the 1800?

I've only printed a few black and white. They turned out great but I think it depends on the image.

With the R1800 you can't just print with black so for some images you could still have issues with colour casts.

I have the R1900 and it, in a major way, changed my view of photography. My prints on super A3 size, 13inches x 19 inches are just unbelievable. I hva no experience on the 1400, but the quality of the R1900 in both color and B&W are simply awesome.

Bump - Thanks for the responses so far - anyone with the 1400 care to chime in?

Me i have the 1400, just stared to print on super size, 13x19. Loooootttts of 5x7 the colour is excellent. The only thing is the inks are 4 bucks more than the ones for the 1900.
Very happy with it and $300 less here

I had a 1400... bsides the fact that it crapped out on me days after the warantee expired... I found the b7w prints came out muddy, and I had a hard time getting colours to ome out just right.

I ended up getting a Canon Pixma Pro9000 and I like it alot
