I want your opinion about the wide-angle and/or macro conversion lens like this one:
example of wide angle converision lens
Does it affect the sharpness of the photo? Is it the same quality as a normal wide-angle lens?
and about the macro, what do you think about mount the lens reversed?

I use a .45x wide angle/macro lens - 62mm thread
It's actually a 2 piece lens (different than the one you linked) - when the two are together it's a wide angle, and then you can unscrew the outer lens and it becomes a macro lens.
It all depends on what you are mounting it on. On my wide angle zoom lens (18-55mm) I get really dramatic shape and it's sharp, but crazy vignetting. On my 70-300mm, it helps get a wider range, but causes terrible ghosting anywhere past 25% of my zoom (not that I should leave it on, but I get lazy).
It's a great way to widen your existing lens for really cheap... but I don't think it would replace getting a good wide angle.
What are you thinking about using it for? |

Not wanting to cast doubt but imho you tend to get what you pay for and won't get much in the way of lens quality for $35. Might be good for a laugh but don't expect too much from it.

I won't pull any punches, it's utter junk. Buy yourself a dinner at a nice restaurant, you'll get more pleasure from it. |

Hey GPALOS
I bought mine on ebay. I was looking at them for a while, depending on the size you want, the value comes and goes (depending on what stores are putting up) - I couldn't find the one I purchased on ebay anymore, but I found it on amazon- here. - I spend about $40 total shipped- and it came with 8 adapter rings... so I was actually able to play with it on multiple lenses.
I agree with Ecce Signum that you get what you pay for... but trust me... I've spent more than $30-$40 on things that I've had a lot less fun with than this lens. haha.
I wouldn't call it "utter junk" like Kirbic- but I also don't have a massive list of Cannon, Zeis, and Nikon lenses to use with a 5D... or motorola razor like kirbic does. Haha. I guess a $30-$40 lens is utter junk, but using listing a cell phone on your equipment list is ok. (Not knocking the cell phone thing, I think you can get great pictures from it- but just notice a bit of contradiction in the statement vs. profile). And to respond, I've also spend $30-$40 at a nice restaurant that I wish I had back to buy something to play with. haha.
If you have the extra money to spare, and playing with your camera is something you enjoy than go for it!
Let me know how it works out for you. |

If you want wider angle shots, and can't afford to go any other way, then it will work just fine. Distortion will be evident near the edges, but you will be able to get more into a shot in close quarters indoors. I used something similar on a digital Sony Handicam for a couple of years, and got a lot of shots that would not have been half as interesting using only the built in lens. Of course the resolution on the old Handicam is minimal, so precision didn't matter all that much. I still use all kinds of things in front of the lens to get odd images. Take it with you when you go to the nice restaurant, and you can have the lens, the meal, and photos to remember the meal.

Hi Guillermo - Back in 2005 when I got my first DSLR, I bought a similar cheapie wide angle adapter - "$45 is cheaper than $700 for a 10-22 and hey, it's the same thing, right?"
I used it on a Sigma 28-80. I think I used it for less than a dozen shots in 2 years. Still, I liked having the ability to shoot wide for practice & playing around, but nothing usable for prints. Here's a couple test shots right from RAW, just resized & saved...
I'll also admit that I've spent more money on worse things. Good luck whatever you decide to do. :) |
