Okay...I have had this happen only a handful of times and got wonderful assistance from Linksys. I cannot connect to the internet with the router. I installed a new phone which required me to unplug the power strip to the pc, and that caused me to loose the connection. (It is strange how when the power just 'goes out' this never happens)

I typed in the Linksys IP and was prompted for my password, which I would not remember. I called Linksys for support and this time they want $30-40 for technical support. I can buy a new router for $50 and get 2 more years of tech support, so I am not paying JUST for tech support!

Ever sincer speaking with their agent, I can no longer access the IP and I cannot ping the Router. It acts as though the router is no longer connected to the PC, but of course it is conneted.

Any thoughts or other suggestion before I spring for a new router.

Did you ever change the default password? Admin for user and password are the defaults from the factory.

Same model router I had to go out on me last night (only 8 months old).

Try this and let me know what lights light up on the front of your router.

Unplug the router at the source (outlet: because the power supply is converts from AC2DC)
Unplug all Ethernet cables.
Now power back up the unit.
What lights are lit?

ETA: What ISP are you using?

I unplugged all sources for the router and now I can get the IP and it accepts my password, and the linksys page comes up. Now what?

I hated my frakkin linksys--got an apple airport extreme and it is so easy to use. Pricey bugger, but SWEET. With my linksys, EVEN with the general access password, no guests at my house could ever "get in" to use it.

I am trying to decide what to do with my now unused linksys "POS" -- take a hammer to it, or put it in the street and drive over it again and again....

Sorry, this probably was not helpful for your situation (except the Airport endorsement....)

LOL...not but relieved some of the aggravation!!!

I have been keeping my eye on iMacs for some time now. But, I want a 40D, and we need a new roof since the hurricanes, and I want an L lens, but the AC broke this weekend, and I want a second 580EX, but then the washer machine broke too. sigh...okay...depressed again....

If you can get to your IP address 192.168.1.1 then your router is connected to your computer.
Is you main computer wireless or wired?
Do you have the software disc that came with the router?

just a minor fyi: the apple airport works with pc's too--no need to get an imac first (though you are unlikely to regret it--till the bill comes, anyway :-)

THIS is what I have. It is likely a bit more involved to set up with a windows machine, but I set it up in mere minutes with my iMac, and then windows laptops easily accessed it.
