Photoshop CS4 New Features also see here.
My favorite new features:
Content-Aware Scaling
Use the new and revolutionary Content-Aware Scaling feature to automatically recompose an image as you resize it, smartly preserving vital areas as the image adapts to the new dimensions. Get the perfect image in one step without time-intensive cropping and retouching.
Industry-leading color correction
Enjoy dramatically enhanced color correction with reengineered Dodge, Burn, and Sponge tools that now intelligently preserve color and tone details.
Also, CS4's new Camera Raw 5 gains "local adjustments" which are so highly touted in the new Lightroom 2.0!

I just finished watching Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I had no idea we are that close. |

Don't be fooled. They say it will scale certain parts of the male anatomy up while scaling everything else down. It's just another male enhancement ad. Albeit a compelling one. |

*lol* Clearly it was written by the marketing-types. They had no idea either!
(if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullsh*t)

Wow, that scaling looks impressive. I assume one would have to put a quick mask over the parts it needs to preserve unchanged, right? But that would be quite quick, since the mask wouldn't need to be very accurate.
I'm drooling here :-) |

This looks like the seam carving (or whatever it was called) we heard about a while back.

That scaling feature could create some chaos within our rulesets :-)

I don't know about that. This feature seems to be moving pixels and adding or removing elements (add or removing space) which is a no no. :)
Of course, going forward the new features would have to be addressed as to what would be allowed and what wouldn't based on effect to the image.

I like this:
Extended depth of field
Combine a range of images, each with a different exposure, color, and focal point — with options to preserve tones and colors — into a single color-corrected image. â€Â¦
I'm actually wondering if the example they show would be legal in Advanced - my feeling is yes â€Â¦
But the rules state: You may not:
combine captures of different scenes, move or change a feature between frames â€Â¦
Any thoughts?

Someone's already done the DOF merge and had it validated in a challenge, if I recall correctly. I seem to remember SC has specifically stated that merge-for-DOF is every bit as legal as merge-for-dynamic range (HDR) in advanced. The same caveats would apply, though; it could be abused and end up DQ...

HeiSch did the DOF thing with a bug in a recent free study. Same concept, different software. His notes are quite educational! |
