I was looking at some Canon 5D II samples here when I noticed the ISO numbers looked a bit odd.... ISO250, 500, 1250, and 2000 for example.

I always thought 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 etc. was the 'standard' scale for ISO - is this type of ISO scale common in newer cameras?

Yep - I have those on my D300 as well...

On my 30d, it has 1/3 steps, so 100, 125, 160, 200, etc... Its nice to have the fine tuning, so if you need just a little more light you don't have to bump it from 800 to 1600, but you can go just to 1000 or 1250. Very handy imo

Interesting. And I just noticed this in the 5D II specs: 100 - 6400 in 1/3 stops, plus 50, 12800, 25600 as option

Of course, there's no technical reason why ISO (or shutter speed for that matter) should even have this type of 'scale' limitation. ISO263, shutter speed 1/78s anyone? :-)
