Wow! Its nice to walk these halls again. Its been a while since i popped my head in here, but then again when i sold my last camera i felt a little naked and out of place.

So...I'm here to seek advice.

Its time to get another camera. I had a Canon D60 which i loved but sold it with the intention of buying an upgrade and never got around to it. I would like another canon camera and have been looking at packages so i can have a couple of stock lens and goodies to get my started again.

I quite like the Canon package here: //cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=160282325664&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=006 and i think the price is very reasonable but i am open to suggestions and will even consider second hand equipment if the price is right.

My budget is approx £550 and obviously i want tog et as much for my money as i can.

Thanks in advance to any help.

The camera you're looking at is a good choice... but the package leaves a lot to be desired. They are throwing in a lot of accessories that are worth very little, and the lenses are basic consumer-grade glass. The wide and tele adapters are pretty much worthless.
It would be helpful to know what your shooting needs are. That would help immensely with recommendations.

Well to be completely honest, as an amateur i am only really interested in learning how to shoot correctly, what settings to use in different scenarios.

I am not interested in weddings or events of a commercial nature but more for a hobby that gets me out and about meeting new and interesting people and subjects.

I really enjoy what Joey Lawrence does and already have a sound knowledge of Photoshop and i guess i would like to be at a stage where i can go out and shoot with confidence and then mix it uip with some good post production.

Ah, that helps. So, let's start with sellers. First research what the body should cost by looking at reputable online merchants with brick & mortar stores. You can assess online merchants at reserrratings.com. One of the best (though they are US-based) is B&H Photo. You can use them for price comparison.
You will probably want a decent short zoom, and perhaps a longer zoom if you feel you need the additional focal length coverage. Or you could just put this off if you feel you don't need the longer reach just now. You'll want your shorter zoom to be of reasonable quality, and to cover the focal length range from about 18mm out to 55mm or so. The most basic Canon lens in this range is the non-stabilized 18-55mm which is sold only as a kit with the body, AFAIK. The next step up is the 18-55 IS (stabilized) which is about $159 USD. Optically, they are OK. They are very basic lenses that perform decently if not pushed to their limits. They have relatively "slow" (small) maximum apertures and so are not that great in low light.
Another suggestion is to pick up the (inexpensive Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens at the same time. It's cheap, has a large maximum aperture, and good optical performance. It will give you better low-light capability and an idea of what a sharp prime (single focal length) lens can do for you.
Stick with moderate sized memory cards and buy two. Better to have two smaller cards than one larger one. Stay with name brands, I prefer Sandisk because of their great track record for reliability.
