I would like to share with you a little trick I learned today. I bought a new 2.0x teleconverter lens for my camera (Tiffen, all glass) and when I got on location to shoot some test shots, I discovered that it quite didn't fit my attachment tube (my original lens comes too far in the tube). I was so upset.
So I returned to the store and two different clerks told me there was nothing to do but return the lens. I almost did, but the clerk helping me with the return have suggested a very simple solution. He took the cheapest UV filter ($15), broke the glass off and used the ring (which has both male and female threads) to fit the lens to my camera. I would never think of that. It made my day!
So here you go. It pays off to be persistent.

Now that's my idea of a good photo store clerk. There should be more like him. |

yah, I asked him if there is anything I could do for him in return. He said, "write a an e-mail to my boss". Which is what I will do. I was very grateful to him. He really treated me well.
He told me that all sales people in their store are supposed to inform the customers about the compatibility of lenses with different cameras, which the clerk who sold me the lense didn't do. So I too wish that the rest of them were like him.
Well, I also learned that from now on, I will be trying new accessories in the store before I buy it. That way there will be no surprises when I bring it home.

Sounds like you bought a Tiffen Megaplus 2x converter and tried to use it with the CLA-1 Olympus tube. For others who would like to use that particular lens with an Olympus 3040/4040/4000/5050 etc. It's best to not buy a CLA-1 in the first place as that tube is designed to always use a step up ring. Tiffen makes its own set of tubes that don't require any step-ups or additional monkeying and do not suffer from lens slap. They can be purchased as part of a set for $10 at places like Circuit City or online. |

Did you get charged for the filter ring?
Just curious?
That IS good service, either way!

Yes, Tiffen does make the tubes as well, but the store didn't have any in stock. I didn't want to wait for a month to order one.
I already had the Olympus CLA-1 tube as I am also using the Olympus wide angle converter W-CON 07 lens.
The filter ring works like a charm. He did not charge me for it, as it was their fault of not informing me that it wouldn't fit.
I tried out the lens today and it works really nice. It is not the most expensive equipment, but for what I will use it for, it works great.
