Ah the glamourous world of photography...!!! four shoots between saturday and tuesday totalling maybe 5 hours of shooting, and now i'm stuck to my computer editing... ah yes, nothing like 100 pictures and short deadlines to remind you of why you chose this glamourous profession :)

BTW this isn't a complaint, every coin has two sides... and editing is just the other side of the photography coin.

so here's the question du jour: has anyone around ever used or thought of using a 3rd party for editing photos? I don't think I ever actually would, but then again, to be able to shot and not worry about the rest...

It would be nice to use a 3rd party but I never care to share the profit ;)

5 hours and 100 photos...hmmmmm....don't look at my computer at the moment. 3 weddings and a graduation = 35 hours shooting = 3,500 photos....lol!

Easy answer:
Do what I do - don't sleep.
I am a 3rd party editor, and a 1st party editor(my own shoots), and I own/operate a completely non-related business (auto repair shop) 6 days a week.

LR2!
It can take RAW in and spit out finished JPGs (or many other things). No need for PS, faster to make selections, crops, etc. LR2 now offers spot editing in a number of ways that really makes a difference.

I'm still learning it so i'm not so fast yet and click the wrong thing and have to re-do at times, but what took me 5 hours now takes 2 to 2 1/2 hours - a huge productivity increase. And the product is better too. I still pull a few into PS for addint txt or heavy cloning.

But overall I feel your pain. Shot 2 seniors yesterday and have 480 images to deal with today, then a HS reunion tomorrow (70 couples), a senior on sunday and then a few days to catch up. Next weekend is a 2 year old baby, wedding, maternity session and a senior. (fri, sat, sun).

LR2 should save me a ton of time, as well as HD space, backup time maybe, and perhaps time on the back end at ordering time.
