My daughter's team is now 7-0 in matches and 14-1 in games. They play best 2 of 3 and they've only gone to the 3rd game once - last week when Kim twisted her ankle and had to sit out a match. They lost the first game of that match 29-27 while they adjusted to her not being in the game. (Normal winning score is 25, but you have to win by 2 points.)
I'm a proud mom, and really excited today - they played THE team to beat, Lakota West - and won in 2! Go Big Blue!
A few from today:

Nice shots Judy!! Congrats to your daughter and team on their great games too! My daughter joined this year too and I found myself being somewhat recruited for this job too. I am no longer doing football *whew* and I find volleyball much more difficult to shoot but it's fun for sure! I look forward to seeing more shots from you as the season goes on! |

Judy - congrats on some fine photos! I have found that volleyball is really one of the most difficult sports to photograph, since the action is so fast, back and forth and unpredictable as to where the crux of the action is going to be. That, combined with the generally not ideal lighting makes for a very tough photo assignment.
Keep up the good work and show some more. |

I noticed that you had to crank up the ISO up to 3200. Looks pretty good for such high ISO. It seems like a bunch of your shots were within the 50mm range. Have you tried your 50mm f1.8? |

Hmm...good thought. I haven't tried it since I got the 40D. I tried it on my old 10D and needless to say, was not happy with the results.
None of the photos posted have had any NI and very little PP. I love the freshman gym, as it has three large windows across the top of one wall. Makes it the best gym I've ever shot in for volleyball. I do have others posted in my other gallery from other locations, but I like our gym the best. I still haven't been able to really "freeze" the ball. Perhaps the 50 will help allow me to do that. |

Judy, I've been using my 85mm f1.8 and it is just perfect from the top of the stands .. I set my WB to florescent and my ISO to 400, f.2.2 and shutter at 1/125 (hope it helps)
Here is a shot I got using those settings (this is not edited except to resize and a usm)
