Well, I got my first film SLR today. Canon 300v. I've been wanted to learn how to develop photos in a dark room and now I am one step closer.
Am really excited to start playing!

Wish me luck.

Cave painting you say? Would be a tad difficult to frame...

Wouldn't the cave serve as one giant frame?

Have fun, Jan. I'd be interested in an update sometime, letting us know how your results vary with the switch to film.

Have fun! It was a bit frustrating at first for me, as I was very impatient and couldnt wait to get my photo out into the light, but its a lot of fun and verryyy rewarding!

Let us know how it goes!

make sure the dark room is vented ( exhaust fan )... fumes can be kind of overwhelming. not sure of you plan on borrowing space or using your own homemade dark room.

you can sort of taste it. hard to explain. but i'm not lying...

Cool jan_vdw. I had my darkroom up 30 years ago and had lots of fun with it. I kind of miss making my burning and dodging tools and actually using a timer for the right effects. If you need any help, PM me, I'll be glad to share some knowledge from yesteryear. Have fun!

You are going to have SO much fun...and your hand will smell, lol. (I hated tongs.)
Show us what you can do! Agree w/ Soup on the taste thing, lol!

Thanks for all the well wishes and advise guys. Not planning to totally switch to film, but I think it would be nice to play around and learn to use a dark room.

I was planning to have my bathroom double as a dark room, will keep the vent in mind.

LOL @ art's comment! :D

but grats on the new cam, serendipitously i was just talking to a pal of mine, who was showing me his last work taken with that same camera. he use to cross develop his films which gives pretty cool results.

when i bought my first digital slr 2 years ago (nikon D50) i quickly discovered that it didn't deliver the same quality i was beeing used to from my early shots taken with my good ol' prakticar slr and soon bought a film body (nikon F50) which i still use to take mostly b&w and develop them at a fiends lab (i recently started building my own dark room but it's quite difficult to find enough space and time to do it).

anyways, FILM RULZ, WOHOO! ;)
