My husband kleski is currently in Washington at Ft. Lewis getting ready to go to Iraq in October. He has been there since the beginning of August and will get a short leave at the end of September so I am going to fly to Seattle for a few days.
I have been looking online and have PM'd a few DPC'ers from the area looking for ideas on what to do and see in Seattle and surrounding areas. Thank you for all the reponses so far. :D!
We will have 3 days/4 nights and will be staying in the Seattle area.(Sept 25-29).
I had thought about trying to have a GTG.. maybe meeting in Seattle one evening for dinner in Kevin's honor before he goes overseas.. wondering if anyone would be available at such short notice?? |

Are you looking for expressed photography outings, or are you looking for simply enjoyable things to do? |

Photography wise, you can pretty much go anywhere. I would suggest the Lochs and of course Gas Works Park for great views of the city.

You can google some of these things:
Pike Place Market
Gasworks park
Queen Anne Hill
Ferry rides
Snoqualmie Falls
Space Needle
Seattle Aquarium
That's probably a basic tourist start. :) |

I was just there for a family visit. Great city, I love it. we hit most of what DrAchoo mentioned. Ill just supplement his post.
Seattle Aquarium stop by Ivars (something of clams) for a snack. also Ye Olde Curiosity Shop (junk store) while your there.
Pike Place Market, the first starbucks, the guys who through fish and the sub cockles of the market take you back to the 20s.
I wanted to shoot a ferry over to the san juan islands, but i guess its an all day affair, although very nice.
If you enjoy reading, most certainly go to the Elliot Bay Book Company . its an amazing book store. Also, the book store is right down the street from the Gasworks park if Im not mistaken.
If you have some time go for brunch/dinner in the space needle resturant. It revolves and is nice, but the food isnt the best.

If you have transportation, I would add Mt. Rainier to you places to see. Of the ferry runs out of Seattle, the Bremerton ferry has the longest run (approx 1 hr each way) and perhaps the best scenery.

I'd be up for that and would be honored to buy Kevin a beer or two. Doesn't matter to me where - I'll let everyone else figure out the logistics and I'll just plan on watching this thread and then showing up. Anytime in the OP's date range would work for me as well. |

An interesting "touristy" thing is to take the tour of the Seattle Underground -- near Pioneer Square at the base of the original Skid Road (not "Row") -- a part of the city which was simply built over. You can see a preview in the (made-for-TV) movie The Night Strangler with Darren McGavin.
If you take a car on the ferry to Bremerton, you can drive down to Gig Harbor, a.k.a. the "Carmel of the Northwest."
Gig Harbor
Mt. Rainier from the Key Peninsula (SE from Gig Harbor)

Can anyone suggest a good centrally located restaurant?? We will be renting a car, so we can be totally open to location and I'm thinking that Friday or Saturday would probably work best for us. |

Did someone mention "free beer"?!
Seriously, it would be great to meet some of the Northwest DPCers during the break. We are not too familiar with the area but know that there is alot to shoot here. Please PM me or my wife so we can figure some day or evening to meet, if even for a few drinks....
Thanks babe for starting this thread. You are the BEST!!!
Mt Rainier is awesome btw!
