Hey yospiff and others... I see that PSP X2 ULTIMATE is now available. At a glance, it looks like it has some new plug-ins, a memory card recovery tool, and RAW file support! (Long overdue.) I wonder if it's any more stable.

Looks like the upgrade is $29.99 -- might be a limited time offer.

I did notice it. In spite of my turning off the "news" feature in my copy of PSP, it still reminds me of available upgrades. The extra frames might be nice. It's easy to spot a PSP user if they use one of the limited selection of frames. Not sure I'm feeling much urge to upgrade, however. I may get more benefit from putting that $ toward a plugin like Noise Ninja or Photomatix. I'll have to look more carefully at what it includes.

Just took a look myself and I'm not seeing much for an incentive.

Here's a list that shows the differences by versions (pdf file): Product Comparison

I use other products for RAW files, but even PSP X2 recognizes and loads my .ARW Sony RAW files.
The Media Recovery item...got that free from Lexar with the purchase of a CF card.
Picture frames, tubes, etc...don't use those much anymore and PSP X2 came with quite a few to begin with.

The 'Painter Photo Essentials 4' might be fun, although not sure I'd use it much.

There are mixed feelings about it in the Corel PSP newsgroup. Some say not much different, others say it fixes a few issues, one being the cropping hang that I've seen several times. They say the Organizer is improved and faster. Most say they are just adding stuff, to resell the same old product and getting the users to pay for a few bug fixes. Most software houses provide incremental updates for free, this makes PSP v12.5 so go figure.

The background remover (not eraser) is a cool tool that should have been in X2 to begin with, its an add-in where you loosely trace your subject and it finds the edges and removes the bg.

I was actually going to do the upgrade for the Background Remover, Extra Frames, Painter Essentials (I demo'd it it does some neat stuff) and Vista Certification, but when I use their link from within PSP (only way to get it for 29 bucks) their shopping cart is screwed up and won't give me the DL version. Says it it DL version but delivery method is Physical and it puts a Shipping Cost that can't be removed.

My inital excitement (the ! in my message) was on the last item in the list -- RAW file support. That would almost be worth it for me.

Someone mentioned a crop bug. I'd also like to see the curves bug fixed -- where the program sometimes hangs if you click and drag control points on a curve. I'm not sure I should have to pay for this, but...

Update on DL thing. There isn't supposed to be a download for the Ultimate package per sales/support. If you do the upgrade (29 buck special offer) on-line understand you are going to get a box (sales stated 6 CDs I believe) shipped to you. The X2 12.5 trial download is for the core product with a lot of things missing

Their website is screwed up showing a DL version...make sure you delete the DL insurance from your cart if you choose the DL upgrade that is on the site as there is no need to pay for that. No way out of the 2G thumb drive thing...we tried.
