Yesterday getting packed for a job, my strap came loose and my camera plummeted from my neck (im 6'4") to the driveway...I managed to snag it before the body hit the ground, but not before the lens hit.

It was only the crappy kit lens that came with my d70, and the plastic that holds it into the body broke.

Worst feeling ever, as the camera is only 3 days old, but luckily it survivedddd.

So what lens should I buy? it was my 28-70mm 3.5/5.6 that broke, and im looking for a comparable replacement. I was thinking something closer to an 17-70 I think?

What kind of strap was it, maybe show a photo, to save someone else.

I have seen many issues with the Nikon strap that is provided with their cameras. I did the same number with my old D70. In fact, I saw someone at the Vermont GTG do it with a D50 using the Nikon supplied strap.

That is why I bought an aftermarket strap that is more comfortable and stable...

Yeah, it was just the standard issue nikon d300 strap. The little fastener slid up or something, and boom goes the dynamite.

Never had the problem with my d70 strap.

I now have those straps tied in knots haha.

Something with a ruggedized, high-impact, Military battle-grade housing.

...and it's own, separate neckstrap. ...and insurance.

I bought a strap with quick-release clips and 2 small sliding pockets for CF cards. I think it was made by Tamrac
