Maybe some of you ace people shooters would consider signing up for the "Littlest Heroes Project", where skilled photographers do pro bono work for families with seriously ill children.
Maybe you know a family that could benefit from a shoot by someone in their area.
Here's their website. I'm proud to say I'm one of their shooters. |

I would do it in a heartbeat, the only thing is they go through your website, and mine is full of half naked people and not many kid photos or standard family photoshoots. hmm have to see what i can do
edited to add, I applied, see if they take me!

What a cool project, I'll have to read more into it and see if it's something my wife and I could do. |

Definately looking more into this as well, For a website, do you know if we need to have our own or would a pbase or flickr account be enough? Thanks for sharing.

Very cool, looks like my son would qualify for a photoshoot, maybe I could get someone with some talent to take a decent photo of him. :D
Actually I'll apply this evening. I spent a week this summer doing just this at an MDA camp.

Hi, Matt, most excellent on both counts. They're trying to get family signups before Oct 8th in order to allow the shooters time off during the holiday season.
I think just a way to have one's work reviewed is the important part. It is angled towards pros and advanced amateurs, the website requirement is mostly to weed out people who might not treat assignments with the dignity and grace they must require.
Shoot, JulietNN, my website is mostly horses! But I pointed them to some human and horsefolk albums. |

I am SOOO glad to find this. I was telling my mom this weekend that I wanted to do free photo sessions for disabled children. I was trying to figure out how to go about it, so I am glad that I have this opportunity. I signed up and will see what happens! |

I have some flashes that I use for lighting but no true form of studio lighting, in your experience with them do you mostly do outdoor photos or studio type shots?
Thanks for the reply on the website.

Hey there, I was recently approved and haven't done an assignment yet. I'm an available light girl too, though I have flashes for fill, prefer the "environmental portrait" spontaneity. People who are portrait pros are probably better at directing people, I'd rather capture the interaction, the emotion, and fixed lighting would distract me too much.
As an animal shooter, I registered with Creative Paw, a group of creatives who help animal rescues and shelters with pro bono web design, photography of course, pr, etc., and have not gotten one request in the months since. I think it's rather unbelievable to have that much talent available free and these groups aren't using it.
A friend of mine shoots for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep, bereavement photography for newborns. For that, IMO you need lighting skills and the strongest of hearts.
Thanks everyone that is helping those in need, our work will have such lasting impact and be cherished treasures. |

Let's see, I applied on the day my kitten Taran walked up to a coyote and said, hey, new in town? Afraid of nothing. That was August 3rd, so it took them a couple of weeks. They are careful as can be in choosing folks to represent their organization. Can't imagine that any of youse wouldn't be approved. (And I referred them to this thread so chances are they've looked at your ports.) |

I just applied using my "people" collection here. I don't know whether they'll take me, since I'm not a pro portrait photographer, but that collection has some pretty decent portraits.

OK well I was hoping my photography didnt suck so bad, that I couldnt even do it for free. :D
It would have been nice to have at least been contacted to say they recieved and reviewed and just dont need us, or to at least acknowledge the offer to help.
