When I take pictures on some of them there are little blue dots, not on all of them, just some of them. It's an Olympus c-211, what is that?

Do the dots appear in darker areas, and more when you use higher ISO?

Do the dots appear in the same places all the time?

If you take a photo with the lens cap on, do the dots appear?

If the answers to the above are yes, then what you have are hot pixels showing up.

Yes

Yes

Yes

And what is a hot pixel and is it correctable? They don't show if I use the flash.

Hi Deannda,
Each pixel on the sensor stores electrical charges in response to light, and the camera reads the amount of charge present as the pixel value. Charge can leak in though, and some pixels leak more than others.
All cameras have this to some degree. The trick is minimizing it. In order to do this,k make sure you shoot at the lowest ISO possible. If the ISO is set to "auto", the camera may be increasing the ISO without you knowing it. Try shooting in a manual mode, at lowest ISO and see if this helps.
ALso, many cameras have a noise reduction function that compensates for them somewhat, by doing an automatic "dark frame" subtraction. If you have this function, make sure it is enabled for slow shutter speeds.
I hope the above helps, PM or e-mail me if I can be of further help.

Hi Deannda -

I just got my Oly about a month and a half ago and discovered a hot pixel this week. Mine has the pixel mapping feature, and it looks to me like yours may as well. I emailed Olympus support and they said it should be used anytime you have trouble with hot pixels. Go to //www.olympusamerica.com, support, FAQ, your camera model and "how do I use the pixel mapping feature".

or just use what I copied from their site:

Press the up and down arrows on the jog dial and push the slide cover to the open position at the same time. Then press the up arrow on the jog dial to highlight âSTARTâ in the menu that appears on the LCD monitor. Press the âOKâ button. The word âBUSYâ and a progress bar will briefly appear on the LCD monitor. Once it disappears, the pixel mapping procedure has been completed.
