I donno; I look forward to seeing some excellent examples of striking, dramatically lit product shots in the sense that I understand them. I'm open to whatever else I find, but I don't think those are boring. I mean, give us a landscape challenge and should we be bored with landscape after landscape? Or self-portrait after self-portrait? In their respective challenges?

Look, some challenges are wide-open, like "blue", say, or "texture", whatever. Others are a little more cohesive. I have no problem with that.

Robert, we need to go drink some beer.

Oh dear. Looking at your two profile photos, I'm not sure that you should go for a beer. I think the chance that you'll mix up which one of you is which and go home to each other's homes is too great. Don't do it!

Oh, don't get me started... Besides, I'm the good looking one. ;{)>

That's uncanny, I never saw your profile pic before...

Fair enough. Perhaps I just think "dramatically lit" and "product shot" don't necessarily go hand-in-hand for the hardliner. I don't remember a lot of dramatic lighting in a Sears catalog. I'm imagining a challenge of actual pure product shots. The purpose of the shot is to show an accurate, well-lit representation of the product with no distraction. 200 of those entries, to me, would sound quite boring.

In an deep voice (much like the McDonalds Ad currently running) "Be afraid, be VERY afraid" ;)

Just go for it! I'm trying to stay alive in a side challenge, my shot is not a stock product shot or a fancy ad shot. I guess in between. After this thread I have no idea how it will score. This should be a interesting challenge. Good luck to all.

Of what? Some people you don't know giving you a low score because their interpretation is different from yours?

Personally, I'm going to enter something I can envision seeing in a catalog, and let the voters "take care" of themselves.

I don't know I get nervous about some challenges, and this is one of them. So I guess, I'll throw it in the mix, and we'll see.

I did enter, like my shot...but...I'm scared for it.

I've never done this kind of shot & decided this challenge would be a good opportunity to piece together a homemade light box. My shot may bomb for not fitting the ideal "catalog" paradigm described here, but it certainly has been worth the trouble to gain such a great new tool for future shots.
