Re the original post; Travel always works for me.
Sometimes I get the feeling that I have photos of everything that reflects light within a 50 mile radius, it helps me a lot to get away to a different landscape and see new territory to shoot. I sometimes have to choose between spending cash on a piece of equipment, or taking a little trip to shoot photos, and the trips win every time.
It's different for everyone though, so it may not work for you, but it just might be what it takes to break the grip of the lull in enthusiasm.
Another inexpensive thing to do is to explore someplace nearby with a child who will be pointing out everything from a completely different point of view and interest than the "photographer" mindset that we would bring to the location. I take my grandson with me sometimes for that reason, and we both have a great time to remember afterward.

I completely agree with the travel element. Its so easy to become bored with your surroundings, and to stop seeing the beauty or interest that you once saw. But then again, to be a true photographer I feel I should be able to take a photo of anything anywhere, and to search deeper into what I've already captured. Also time, money and children don't always allow that travel bug to be utilised. But I'll certainly get out there asap. I think part of the frustration of dpchallenge is that you see so many incredible places that others are shooting - but maybe you all get bored with your incredible canyons, Icelandic fiords, bears leaping out at you and tigers strolling down pathways ;-) lol |

Some good ideas on this thread for photo block! I find macro shooting small mundane objects when I am suffering block can throw up some nice surprises. For example I taped four biro pens together and took a shot of the points or nibs. Not one person I have shown that picture to could guess what it was.
I must get out more! |

...make the photo the last step... in other words use the artistic ability that you know you have - to create. Step outside what you are familiar with. go to the hobby/craft store, look for items that are outside of your comfort zone. Create art with a medium that has intrigued you before but that you have never ventured into. make a sculpture, a flower arrangement, a painting, do some woodwork or just write a poem... whatever... do something artistic that does not involve a camera! This gives you the option to get that valuable brain working! When you create something that you are proud of (or not), something that has pushed your boundries a bit, then record it. What better way to document your new found awesomeness than to photograph it? If you dont photograph it i'll bet your creative brain will, at the very least, feel a little bit more active, and who knows where that will lead!
