Hoping there is some splendid person who can help me.
Three weeks ago my computer started really mucking around whilst on the internet - very slow and then leading up to timing out.
I spoke to my service provider who assures me that nothing is wrong on their front and in the mean time I upgraded my service to ADSL2 with a new modem arriving this week.
Now that I know that there's nothing wrong with my modem and connections I realise it's my computer.
I thought it was IE - so I downloaded Firefox (MOST excellent - plan to keep it), but now it's happening with both.
I'm getting timed out and the error stated is Error 12007.
I've searched the net high and low and cannot find a solid fix.
I've tried the Run - netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt with reboot - it worked pretty well but seems to need redoing all the time.
Can ANYONE PLEASE HELP!
I don't know anyone computer savy here or I'd take it to them.
I don't have my XP disk (laptop was loaded at purchase) - but I can hunt one down if that will help.
PLEASE HELP - I love my internet and can't stand the tension this is causing me and the time it's taking to find a fix.
Thanks in advance,
Lisa |

After dong a google search I have found this info for you.
"I found out error 12007 has to do with firewall/security. Check your firewall settings in the Admin Control Panel for Windows. It could also be because you need a security update from this location:
//www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=70530968-B59A-47C0-90D3...
Hope this helps."
and also this link tells you how to fix it.

Try viewing the links on another computer and follow the instructions on the bad computer without having the bad computer needint to go online. Download the fix and transfer it to the bad computer.

Hmmm...okies so the Error Message isn't coming up? Run a virus scan and remove any spyware....maybe delete that program that you used to fix the problem, now that you don't need it.

NOW this is why I LOVE DPC.....
Judi you are a knockout, and just the most amazing person to have around if somethings goes wrong.
I do hope all is fixed for you Lisa.
I am having 'RAW' problems with the "Raw Shooter" program I was using, and with my new installed software that I have uploaded for my new Canon 450D camera. I can't see them in raw, in my raw shooter program t all, and need to be able to change the raw to JPEG format for photoshop.
I am tearing my hair out,and I do not have very much, and I will have to sleep on it, I think. I wish I could wave a magic wand and fix it.
I hate technical stuff..... |

You should have a disc with your new Canon...including the Digital Photo Professional software....use that to do your conversions...that is all I use for all my Canon Raws. You can do an upgrade from within the DPP programme that will give you more options and it will also show your in camera settings that you can change in RAW on the computer...such as WB, Monochrome, Landscape etc.

I recently had a similar problem and it happened right after I did a microsoft update. IE just locked up. I went back to a restore point and now ignore the 'your computer is ready for updates' on power up.

Try downloading AVG Free software, then run their scan, if you have a virus it will soon find it. Judging by the way your laptop is dropping your connection, it sounds very like a virus or spyware.
Hope this helps:) |

How many AV programs are you running?, they may be clashing.. my best advice to you now will be this
1.unplug all links to the internet, cables wireless etc.
2.go to Add/remove programs
3.remove all AV/firewall/internet security programs you have installed and also remove user settings if asked, If you have norton or macafee you will need to download their uninstaller, its free.
4. go to this place and download AVG free version 8 as Steve said, remove the old version you have as well then load up the new one and install it
5. connect to the internet and run the updates for AVG
Sometimes this can fix things, A lot of AOL security and other ISP software will clash with each other and can cause problems when you get a bit of malware or a virus they will start playing pass the parcel with it and this can sometimes cause the problem of connection loss.
Let me know how you get on
It would be good to see a list of what you have on your Add/remove programs then I could advise better what to remove and what to keep

Also just curious did you replace/install a Router/Switch recently?
Most ADSL connections use PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) which doesn't like the Standard MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit (IP Packet size)) size of 1500. MTU for PPPoE should be at 1492. If you put in a new router/switch check that those inital settings are correct on the router.
EDIT: Also note if you are setup for PPPoE on a Router/Switch you do not need to run the ISPs crappy client on your computer.
If you don't have a router then you are probably running a pppoe client that your ISP disguised as their connection software and those setting take place on each computer which get to be a lot more fun to check.

Andy you wonderful man - all of that seems like such a reasonable question, but unfortunately my ability to comprehend your jargon is minimal - GRIN!
I did just install a new Broadband Router (iConnect622) last week to enable high speed ADSL2 internet here. The issue with my computer started before then.
As for the other information PPPoE etc, I would not begin to know how to find out about those settings to answer you.
Additionally - my computer is telling me I have a winsock issue- it asks if I want it repaired, I say yes, and reboot and still the same issue. Additionally I've run WinsockxpFix.exe and still the same issue.
Happy to try anything if given rudimentary directions - GRIN!
It's late here now, Fathers Day and I must off to bed as it's also my husbands birthday tomorrow and I'm knee deep in cake and good cheer (well I'm faking the cheer, because this issue is in my mind and it's like a Rubic's cube that I KNOW I can fix, just need some divine guidance!) |

Alrighty then, I will watch this thread to see where you are at when you wake.
I did a quick looksee on the iConnect622 and see it is ADSL modem with lots of bells and whistles. Is this plugged directly into your computer or does it plug in to an Router/Switch/Wireless AP (linksys, dLink, Netgear etc) that your computers plug into?
In the past adsl modems were just dumb devices (to the consumer) that routed the network to our pc or a router/switch that did all the work. These new modems are configurable by us and become a bit more complicated. They perform the same network function that a router does like DHCP, Routing, firewall and filtering. I put a similar adsl modem in my house a few months back, for me a Network guy it was a lot of fun but for an end user it could get a little nutty.
Now if you are not plugged into a wireless/router/switch then defaults should at least work(ish).
