I discovered recently how to get the BEST resolution out of ProShow Gold / Producer and thought I'd share the information.

I recently set up a large LCD to display the my slide show and was less-than-satisfied with the sharpness of the images that I was seeing when running the slide show off of my computer (i.e. running the created executable, *not* playing a DVD).

My LCD has a native resolution of 1680x1050. That is much smaller than the images that I'm presenting, so my thinking is, they should be at least as sharp as the images after reducing down to 1680x1050. But they weren't. They were soft. In fact, even the lettering of the captions that I put into the slide show were soft!

I contacted Support for help and they suggested that on the Output Options display (for Create Executable) that I put a check mark in the Rendering box and set the "Limit Rendering Size" value to be equal to my LCD resolution (i.e. 1680x1050). I did that and, to my amazement, everything came out beautifully sharp - even the captions, which now were razor sharp.

So I was preparing a slide show for this evening which includes 6 chapters. And the odd thing was that, 3 out of the 6 chapters were sharp, and the other 3 were soft. And no amount of playing around with these other three chapters was resulting in sharp images or captions. So I finally broke out the text editor and took a peek inside the .PSH files that ProShow creates. What I found was that there are the following lines in each file:

maxDispWidth=1680
maxDispHeight=1050
maxRenderWidth=1680
maxRenderHeight=1050

The above lines had 1680x1050 for the 3 chapters that were sharp, but they had 800x600 for the 3 chapters that were soft!!! So I closed down ProShow, saved a copy of the files "just in case", and then edited those values in the 3 chapters that were soft, changing them to 1680x1050. Restarted ProShow, re-created the executable and VIOLÃ! Now all of my chapters are sharp!

I'll be writing back to Support with my findings. But in the mean time I thought this information might be of value to other ProShow users.
