I don't agree with SC's decision to disqualify this from the road less traveled challenge due to use of spot healing or cloning to remove a few pixels.
submission
original
It's especially frustrating when entire objects have been removed and added to other photos (in June) and there was an entire thread back then explaining why that one was validated.
Clearly the use of the cloning did not materially change my photo and was intended to remove the top portion of a circle shape which I thought might have been either dust or hot, and was distracting.
I'd be curious to know what others think. |

This was a basic editing challenge, and you're not allowed to do any spot editing at all except for sensor dust or hot pixels. The examples you gave of objects being cloned out were probably advanced editing challenges. |

I suppose rules are rules, even if it annoyingly means our photos might not be as clean as we'd like, though I'm sorry to see that one DQd. I think it was brilliant.

That was a silly move, making that minor adjustment. Looking at the original the spot you adjusted looks like either a small spot of fog in the trees or a water drop on the lens. Doesn't look like sensor dust at all. Sorry. You did ask for opinions. :-) |

I did think it was dust, but you may be right about a water drop. |

For next time when you go to clone out dust, clone out all of it not just the top half. And don't forget to clone out the half dozen other identical looking spots of dust. You missed a bunch more to the right. |

Sorry... that clearly wasn't sensor dust. The rules are pretty straight-forward about this one... no spot editing at all, with the exception of hot pixels or dust. Additional editing is legal in advanced. I agree that it's a bummer that it was DQ'd -- it is a very nice shot.

It looks like water drops on your uv filter were cloned or just tampered with. Legit disqualification imo. |

Sucks, but don't let it get you down. It is a nice pic, too bad the challenge wasn't running under advanced. |

It's a very nice shot, but the rules are very clear. The SC really had no discretion here, nor should they in my opinion.
Just take it as a learning experience and remember: in basic editing, don't ever use a selection tool unless it's sensor dust or a hot pixel. There are many important differences between basic and advanced editing, so it's worth learning them. That'll let you use each to best advantage.
I'm curious, though, what shot you think had "entire objects" added and was validated. Certainly it's legal to remove some small things in advanced editing, but adding whole objects?

You should have left it alone, it was more noticeable after you did the edit, the before just blended in with the clouds. Rules are rules :) |
