What red herrings are you trying to throw up now? What connection? Who's inferred the connection in the first place? That's where I'd start the investigation.

Um... Obama. William Myers. Hello? Read much? Obama claims never to have known him except as a neighbor yet they worked together as the heads of a liberal education-sabotaging think tank.

What are you labelling a terrorist group? So they worked for the same think tank.

And he associated, was friends with, and worked closely with an unremorseful domestic terrorist who after 9/11 said he wished his group "The Weathermen" had blown up more stuff.

So. Do you know what all your co-workers are into? Do you know what all your neightbours are into? If not, you better do some background checks so you can disassociate yourself before they label you as a terrorist.

Yet oddly they are not. BIAS? Yep.

Quick, call your favorite news organization immediately and DEMAND a full investigation of Obama's connections to the Klingons and Romulans!

A Google search of "william myers" "the weathermen" yields nothing related. Zilch. Nada.

Must be a conspiracy. After all, Gore invented the internet, so obviously the results of an internet search cannot be trusted. :-P

I think you nailed it. The internet is biased. Here's the proof!

My bad...

William Ayers, not Myers.

Yes, I read. I just don't read the output of the paranoid neo-con propaganda machine and blindly accept it as fact. Evidently, you're willing to not only accept it, but willing to parrot it to everyone within squawking distance as well.

Shame this country is half-blind/half-conservative.

Oh man. John Stewart is so capable of cutting through all the political BS that is foisted on us by, frankly, both campaigns. Here, naturally, he's picking on the Republicans. I don't pretend that the Dems wouldn't have exactly the same gaffes, but I've never seen Karl Rove look so stupid. Even if you are conservative, you just have to snicker at the political doubleface of these reporters and pundits. 24-hour news coverage has become simply a laughingstock of talking heads.

John Stewart pretty well roasts everybody

What's a shame is that the neo-con (Republican) party has F'ed up in their "leadership" of this country and some ordinary, otherwise intelligent people are still so gullible as to swallow party propaganda hook, line and sinker.

How can you claim to love a country where you have such disdain for half of it's citizens?

You can. Go to The Comedy Network. And watch that "Sarah Palin Gender Card" video. It's hilarious. "In his defence, he's a lying sack of shit." :-D

Speaking of half - I find it interesting in the way our population is so split, and has been for quite some time. I know we're a fairly diverse country with people of many origins and faiths...but still, how can we remain so evenly divided when it comes to politics?

No disdain, just regret. Conservatives try to help them see the truth, but they keep being liberal anyway.

According to Wikipedia: In 2004, roughly 72 million (42.6 percent) Americans were registered Democrats, compared to 55 million (32.5 percent) Republicans and 42 million (24.8 percent) independents.

But this is my point, we are not red and blue, but shades of purple. Just because you're a Republican or Democrat doesn't mean you subscribe to everything that anyone in the party says. But the pundits and party bosses want you to think that we are more divided than that, because that makes it easier to sell their products.

You see, you say things like that and it makes it sound like you've got all the answers. That you have the divine understanding of what's right and wrong in this country. If you really believe that, then bully for you -- go do something about it. But for most of us, the world isn't that black and white. And for you to dismiss out of hand the fact that a large number of intelligent people may differ with you doesn't do your argument any service. I don't think conservatives are idiots. I respect their opinions, even when I may disagree with them. I try to see the world through their eyes. I am sure there are conservatives that do the same, but your vitriol does not paint you as someone who does. It just comes across as someone regurgitating everything they hear on FOX News.

Those are good stats to know. The number of independents is higher than I would have guessed. However, I was thinking more in line with recent polls showing approval (likely to vote for) percentages for McCain and Obama. Then consider the Bush/Gore election results and how close that came out with the nation basically split.

William Ayers, not Myers.

You two appear to have a lot in common-
Ayers was affected when SDS President Paul Potter, at a 1965 Ann Arbor Teach-In against the Vietnam war, asked his audience, "How will you live your life so that it doesn't make a mockery of your values?" Ayers later wrote in his memoir, Fugitive Days, that his reaction was: "You could not be a moral person with the means to act, and stand still. [...] To stand still was to choose indifference. Indifference was the opposite of moral"

Looks like Ayers turned himself in to take responsibility for his actions, but the charges were dropped due to misconduct on a part of COINTELPRO- "a series of covert and often illegal projects conducted by the FBI aimed at investigating and disrupting dissident political organizations within the United States" (note the eerie similarities to their tactics and those of the current administration). Ayers is now a respected university professor who works primarily on education reform. Is Ayers really a terrorist now? Is he on some no-fly list or most-wanted poster for threatening the U.S.? I seem to recall you being an advocate of forgiveness and redemption. Looks like you're trying to draw some connection between Obama and the actions of one of his associates who was an activist when he was a kid. It's not like Obama actually attended meetings with the bad guys while they were committing the crimes (ahem). McCain was apparently clueless about these guys' illegal activities at the time, yet the mere association is enough to warrant criticism of Obama? Oy.

That's what happens when you have candidates or campaigns that connect to the extremes of their party. The center is forced to choose over non-issues like gay marriage. Stangely, both candidates this time around are claiming the ability to cross party lines, but neither have been doing such a good job from a campaigning perspective.

Thanks. I had tried earlier with no success.

Very funny stuff. His writing team is fantastic, not that they need to make up much of what they write.
