After one long day of shooting with my Canon eos 350D Rebel, I inserted a newly charged battery, took one photo, but then the camera died.

The red battery light kept flicking on and off, and the camera froze up.

Now, when I turn the camera on, the battery light [red] flicks on and off. I can take one photo, but then the camera freezes up again, and I can't take any more pics.

I have tried changing lenses, cards, batteries, and also cleaning contacts. As I am 2-days journey from the nearest Canon dealer I would appreciate any advice.

First off, welcome to the site!

Secondly, sounds like a major error, can only recommend you get it to a service center, not what you wanted to hear, but sadly old electrical equipment just sometimes goes wrong..

Out of interest, the fully charged battery you inserted - was it genuine Canon or a third party make?
