Not bad at first look. The Bookmark (Favorites) handling is a bit rough -- no folder first sort. But otherwise, pretty neat.

For those who dont know, Chrome is a new Browser developed by Google (although it is open source I believe)..

More abotu it HERE

Just downloaded it myself.. imported all my bookmark and passwords etc from Firefox.. love the minimalistic interface.

Had it installed for bout 30 mins, it's really nice, very light on my system.

Agh, its not available for Mac yet.

It's a good browser, and especially developer-friendly. "Inspect element" is pretty cool, and "Create application shortcut" is neat for making shortcuts to your blog admin page or some other web application. I'll likely switch from IE.. and this from a long-time IE aficionado who despises Firefox.

It's got built-in spell check, by the way. Start typing horribly in the text box to find out. :-) Right-click your mistakes for context-sensitive suggestions.

And fast too... Some CSS issues with my site, but otherwise, liking it.

Firefox had that, but some of the suggestions to poorly spelt words left a lot to be desired. So far this spell checker has been pretty spot on.

Haven't tried any flash page yet. Off to do that now!

Cool, its got a porn `incognito` mode as well.. When in `incognito` mode it doesnt track any pages you visit, save data, cookies or anything.

heh, may come in handy.

"Porn mode" was "borrowed" from IE8 (still in beta). Not crazy about favourites management yet, but maybe I'm just not familiar with how it's done. And I'm insulted spell check isn't recognizing Canadian spellings. :-P

Seems pretty fast to me :)
09/02/2008 04:38:57 PM · #14
Yeah, it does seem quite fast... I'm surprised, I couldn't imagine how much faster you could make page loads. But it definitely seems snappy.

Agree - noticeably faster.

I imagine it would have been but IE 8 is poised to be released soon. (Or so I hear). I guess Google's focus was getting it out the door.

Is there any feature like pic lens on this browser?

I am sure there will be soon. What about Java? I couldn't find that.

Error 4 is short for "Error 4 buying Vista"

;-)

(first post from chrome....) now work despite Vista.... not a great first impression.....
09/02/2008 05:12:34 PM · #23
I'm running Vista and Chrome works great (using it now). I have it on my desktop and laptop and don't see that changing. IE has issues and I hate Firefox - Chrome looks like the best yet, IMO.

Edit: Some weirdness when I visit my website. It uses Flash to display photos and sometimes I get an odd error message, other times the pages loads on the first try. Hmmm...wonder what's up with that. But still works, so not a big issue for me.

That's been in IE for a long time. :)

No, the actual URL locater is also the search box. In IE they're separate.

Edit: Oh, never mind, you meant that "search from the address bar" thing.
