Well yes I do not believe we should ban smoking or be able to tell a restarant owner or business owner he can or cannot allow smoking in his business. That should be up to the owner not Government. If I go to a restarant and do not want to eat there I go elsewhere. Simple. BTW I do not smoke.. PS I think the references are being made to Hitler's Germany Kind of the way some blame Bush for all the problems in America.

What a stunning example of an association fallacy. Besides, when you say "Hitler did this" and so on, you are being historically inaccurate. Hitler did nothing to bring about the national police force known as the Gestapo; that dubious honour lies with Göring, and subsequently Himmler and Heydrich. As with any large modern state, there is no simplistic mechanism you can point to and say, "this happened because of this".

The Nazis also started banning cigarette smoking in public areas and sought to inform their citizens of the dangerous side-effects of smoking. Should we be alarmed that fascism is on the way when latter-day governments do the same for their citizenry?

Corollaries and usage
There are many corollaries to Godwin's law, some considered more canonical (by being adopted by Godwin himself)[2] than others invented later.[1] For example, there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress. This principle is itself frequently referred to as Godwin's Law. It is considered poor form to raise such a comparison arbitrarily with the motive of ending the thread. There is a widely recognized codicil that any such ulterior-motive invocation of Godwin's law will be unsuccessful (this is sometimes referred to as "Quirk's Exception").[6]

Godwin's Law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Hitler or Nazis or their actions. It does not apply to discussions directly addressing genocide, propaganda, or other mainstays of the Nazi regime.[citation needed] Whether it applies to humorous use or references to oneself is open to interpretation, because although mentioning and trivializing Nazism in an online discussion, this would not be a fallacious attack against a debate opponent.

However, Godwin's Law itself can be abused, as a distraction or diversion, that fallaciously miscasts an opponent's argument as hyperbole, especially if the comparisons made by the argument are actually appropriate. A 2005 Reason magazine article argued that Godwin's Law is often misused to ridicule even valid comparisons.

So if it is applicable then it is you that has abused Godwins Law acording to it's definition. BTW I was rebutting a statement compairing the U.S. To Hitler's Germany in the 30's

I think not. I know I said I was going to leave this thread alone, but you coronamv are one of the most...words defy me at the moment.

And if you think for one minute the Republicans wouldn't be happy to take away you're guns under the guise of keeping all of us safe from terrorists...you are a fool.

As to 1. I disagree. It is not the US goal to spread democracy and get rid of dicatators and genocide. If that was true they would have intervened in many African countries too by now. But they only intervene when it is in the US interest, like ores, oil, or (weapon) orders for American companies.
I wouldn't call the American system a good example of democracy either with its two party system which are both far right.

I also think, from reading this thread, that you are not unlike the 3 men who were arrested last week for wanting to assassinate Obama. You even mention assassination yourself. Now that you have Palin in the picture you think you're even more right about where you believe your country should be heading, a gun carrying Christian state.

I hope for your country that Obama gets elected. Another 4 years of recession, high energy costs that show absolutely no signs of letting up, higher than normal inflation, housing market collapse (please don't tell me this wasn't partly Bush's fault), your automobile industry, etc. Your country is in deep shit and it's not because of Clinton!

Nope. I know darn well that Obama is the W-R-O-N-G choice. For America anyway.

Where did I mention assassination????? And you slander is ill-founded.

I went back and noticed citymars mentioned something about assassination and he was referring to someone else who had mentioned it, I thought he was referring to you. I retract what I said and give you my apologies.

Answer me this coronamv...and RonB. I've looked at your profiles and viewed the other various piffle you have written...and coronamv, you have come up with some real doozies. Your main purposes for being at DPC seems to be to participate in the rant forum and not much else.

Why is that? Oh, sure, you have every right to be here...but I'm just curious as to why you hang around a photo site mainly to play in a rant forum.

Thank you for that. Accepted.

I truly think both Obama and McCain could be targets by the lunatic fringe on the left and right. But I think our Secret Service does a wonderful job protecting the president no matter what party and don't believe anyone would succeed.

That said, I think and believe McCain was the better choice before the nomination of Palin and after her, he's even better. Obama is dangerous and it has nothing to do with his race.

And on that note, all I need to say as been said and there is no point in responding to the ad hominem attacks of others.

If you live in fairy-tale land, I guess you could say it's not.

From where I sit, the US has an administration that over the past eight years:

has pissed away billions on an overseas quagmire that was neither justified nor well-planned.

Started an unjustified second war in Iraq rather than finishing the first war in Afghanistan.

Has an economy headed down the crapper at high speed with no sign of an upturn.

Treats all of its citizens as suspects.

Has created the largest growth in the Federal government ever.

Has saddled our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren with a huge debt while giving tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations.

Those same corporations getting tax cuts and incentives have shipped millions of jobs overseas.

Has allowed the country's manufacturing base to be sent overseas, decreasing capacity to a degree that should the US need to increase production of military hardware as they did in WWII, it would not be possible.

Condones and encourages torture.

The list goes on, but overall, that's a country that's in deep shit.

How is starting an unjustified war, based on lies, rebuilding the military? By all accounts, the military's readiness and capability is at an all time low. That's not to mention the fact that Rumsfeld under Bush's guidance, sought to cut the military even further.

The war was justified by both parties, based on lies and misrepresentations from the Bush administration. Those lies and misrepresentations invalidate any justification of the war.

No, the huge amounts of debt are mainly due to the war, which has mortgaged the future of our children and their children for what? I guess you don't give a damn about that, as long as you get yours before you die.

Yes, we all know about how you're living high on the hog and life is great for you. What makes you so sickening is that you use it to flaunt your uncaring nature like a badge of honor when you should be ashamed that you're so callous.

I guess privacy means nothing to you. Ever hear of a little idea called unlawful search and seizure? You're all for the constitution when it suits your needs, but equally ready to discard it like used toilet paper when that suits your purpose. I should have expected nothing less from you.

Huh?

You're the one who needs to do some homework, starting with actually taking a look at my profile. I am a paying member who participates in ALL areas of this website. I rarely participate in rants but was for some reason moved to do so this time. My mistake. I know there are others who start these posts...they also participate in other areas of this website. I took a look at your thread participation history and it speaks for itself. You didn't answer my question...why are you here? Do you just like to poke bees?

As far as gun control...really not at the top of my priority's at the moment. My husband is concerned about the 2nd amendment and that's why he's a Libertarian.

And as far as you thinking your being here has anything to do with my happiness? You need to get over yourself...the sooner the better.

HA!HA!HA!HA! Yeah Right!

So what evidence is there that contradicts creation? None.

Carbon dating? Nope. Based on guesses and assumptions that are not proven.

Fossil record? Nope. Using Carbon Dating (flawed) and other assumptions.

What then?

every shred of evidence we have is just that, evidence. We know there were dinosaurs because we have the skeletons. We ASSUME T-rex was a carnivore with green skin based on our knowledge of other reptiles. Evolutionist hang a story on the evidence... and that story keeps changing as new evidence is found that confounds their story.

The Creation account has been around since Moses wrote it down inspired by God (He was there obviously). Never once has it changed and never once as any actual EVIDENCE come to light that contradicts it.

Amazing when you divorce yourself from the hype of evolution and actually look at the facts.
