I inverted my First Light submittal and added a basic star field. I would welcome comments.

I see the intention, and I like it. A couple of suggestions: I would round off the sky some. Create separate layers and use the round marquee in Photoshop with a little feathering. Also, the sphere filter may work well with this too.

That's a very will done "illusion" photo, but from the description you gave it doesn't sound legal for a DPC entry.

I would agree, give it a rounded horizon and it will look more "natural". Good work

Thanks for the comments. I just did a rough take to see what you all thought. I am still new to Elements and did not know how to do the curve. It would not pass muster in the challenge due to the editing, but I thought it a good illusion. I will work on it some more.

Thanks,

David P

Dave,
I am at work now but, when I get home I will play with this in photoshop if you like and write step by step what I did and post the finish for you.

I really like the potential of this, it is incredibly like a shot from low orbit. Like Jae, I think it needs some curvature and a bit of atmosphere at the edge of the sphere. I hope you don't mind that I had a go at it.

The curvature I added by using the Panotools plug-ins, specifically I did a "remap" from "normal" to "fisheye" with both Horz. and Vert. FoV set to 45 degrees. Prolly means nothing unless you are familiar with Panotools, but same effect can be achieved with built-in filters in PS, no doubt.
I replced your star field with an actual star field that I had photographed some time ago, to get more variation in "star" brightness.
I added a haze along the edge of the "Earth" by cloning in some blue from the "ocean" using a 20px soft brush set to 33% opacity & 15% flow. It could be more uniform, but I only spent a couple minutes on it.

I added cloud shadows on the "ocean" by selecting the clouds, copying them to a new layer, and setting the blending options to "drop shadow", then adjusting the angle, size, opacity, etc.

Finally, I blurred the edge of the Earth a bit, and added the lens flare to suggest the sun just out of frame to upper right.

Wow,

I can see right now that I must go back to school in PS. My 12 hrs in B & W in college was all before digital and I can only just scratch the surface of PS Elements, much less PS. I knew it needed curvature but did not know how to do it. I will see if I can follow directions and replicate some of this. I was taken by the inverted shot. The original did well in Lighting, but this is a real trip. Thanks Kirbic.

Jae, Please take a shot at it too. I did not see your post at first. Thanks.
