Welcome! Are you pilot or passenger there?

Not only a pretty shot, but I think it illustrates some meteorological principles(?) in the way the shape of the cloud front so closely mirrors the shoreline. Thanks for posting that.

Passenger on a 737.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm looking forward to participating here.

Here's one from the moving Whitepass rail on my Alaska trip (very scenic!). I don't know how fast we were going, maybe 30 mph. Fortunately, you are allowed to stand between the cars to take pictures!

Here's one I took while driving at about 50. I had just bought my Pro 90 and was seeing how the Image Stabilization feature worked. It may not show here but the full size original is very sharp.

Here's another one I took a couple of days ago after this thread inspired me to try some more.

I have this 'drive-by triptich' used as entry to one of the challenges ("multi-image compositions"). They were just 3 consecutive shots (in repeat-mode) taken from the train that was driving into the city at a speed of some 40 km/hr.

If the window won't open, it is best to push the lens flat against the window to prevent glare and reflections. It also helps to minimize the effect of dirty windows. This might work to your disadvantage if there is a lot of high-frequency vibration, it will induce camera-shake blurring of the picture.

This was the last shot on my card so just pointed and clicked away (my wife does the driving!)
Tarted it up in PSP as it was a bit flat.

Good drive-by photo chinstrap. It shows motion in the foreground and stillness in the background.

My best drive by shot: //www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=48547

I had _no_ time to do anything except point and shoot. Through a car window, at about 50 mph. I was driving, the light ahead turned green and the traffic was heavy. Not great as photographs go, but I love it anyway.

C.

er: make that 50kph - about 30mph

GeneralE,

I liked your gallery of vehicles and plates, but is it legal to post license plates on the web? If it's legal, is it a good idea?

Does this count as a drive-by?

From a referral at The Mirror Project I found The Windscreen Gallery, a site devoted to pictures taken through moving car/vehicle windows. Here is one of my recent submissions (might be the same link).

Size limits: 500x500 pixels, 40kb (JPEG quality 5-7/10 usually works)

Not a drive-by, more a lame attempt at panning LOL
