Just wanted to know if ppl still get critiqued on their challenge entries if they did mark the check box for it.

It appears that it is still active. There are 73 images in the CC queue waiting for critiques.

Are you waiting for one? Which challenge? Images only go into the CC queue once voting is complete.

Once the next rollover happens the queue gets overwritten with the newest challenges that just ended voting.

You can always start a thread and ask for more feedback on your image though.

FYI, the critique club on average only manage to complete approx 5% of the requests made, due to the number of requests being significantly larger than the number of active critiquers, so there's only really a 1 in 20 chance that your entry will get a critique during the results week timeframe.

Maybe that info should go into the FAQ, if it isn't already.

I was going to start a thread asking the same question. I have never received a critique from the critique club and I've always checked the boxes.

I've gotten two in 6 months. A good image helps I think

The critiques are randomly assigned from the queue, so the content of your image has no relation on your odds of receiving a critique.

Can't speak for the other members, but I have been super busy as of late.

When I do a critique, I usually spend on average about 15 minutes or more with an image. Before I type the first letter, it probably has been about 5 minutes.

Personally, I prefer the critique club to commenting during the voting. I'd much rather spend some quality time with an image, than try to get all the voting done, and try to rate one image against another. I'd highly recommend it to anyone that either want to learn to take better images, or just wants to help others where they can. An added bonus, is I get to read the photographer's comments while I review. I strongly urge all those who submit images for critique to leave something more than n/a in the comments. It makes our job easier. If I know where you are trying to go, then I can speak to that effort.

If you have an image that you would really liked critiqued, then please send me a private message and I'll do my best to get to you in a day or so.

i liked your approach ambaker. and i dont understand why better images should get critique instead of otherwise. As someone clicking critique is most probably someone learning new techniques and fundamentals of photography. but i agree if the queue is too long, help sure is less.
on a different front , can anybody join the club ? i mean is there a criteria on avg. vote or something ? I sure can find some use of my empty time.

Just send a CC enquiry from the help/contact page. It's the last radio button to select.

The que is completely random. There is no favoritism towards the better images. Personally, I would prefer it, if the lower scoring images were given preference. After all, if the image one the challenge, there is likely not a whole lot one can say to make it a lot better.

Originally the default was critique request set to yes. At that time there was no way to keep up with all of them. Now days, there are fewer images per challenge, but more challenges, and fewer reviewers.

Keep in mind that our opinions are just our opinions. At least in my case, I do not hold the key to making any photo you've taken a winner. But hopefully I can provide some help from a different perspective.

I think this post might help get me active again doing some critiques.

One thing I might mention is to request that folks only click that request button once in awhile as opposed to every challenge they enter. Maybe once every 3 or 4 challenges. That would help spread the results around a little better I would think. You could still post you entry in a thread following the challenge if you need more feedback. Just a thought.

I'm always glad to see this subject come up again in the Forums. I'm presently an inactive member of the Critique Club (we do tend to burn out after a while). I can only stress that new members are constantly needed to add the extra personal touch to the Site that the Critique Club provides.

We're just regular people who like to help.

We submit our own images, vote and do 'normal' comments just like everyone else. We also try to do those "In Depth Critiques" that the Critique Club is famous for. We are not experts - although we do frequently become better photographers for taking this extra step.

I also wish those perennial high-scorers who really don't need a critique would take their images out of the queue, as the images are assigned completely at random, as an earlier poster pointed out.

So, sure! Jump in the pool and try some critiques for yourself.

When you use the button on the "Help" page that cpanaioti described, you will probably 'talk' to a SC member, and your first few critiques will likely be reviewed to see if you're on track, and then -

Well, you're IN.
