Saturday I was in Daytona shooting at the National Reptile Breeders Convention.
I was not shooting manual as the lighting and everything varied way too much for me to keep up with table after table.
After each table I would turn off the camera and close the onboard flash until the next species of interest caught my eye.
I noticed about half way through the day that the flash stopped popping up and going off. I tried switching to manual mode and opening the flash myself - but it still would not go off.

Could I have accidentally "flipped a switch" somewhere to prevent the flash from working, or did it somehow break or die?
If the latter - any idea how much something like that might cost to fix and where I can find info on where to send it to get fixed?

Many thanks in advance for any advice, ideas, suggestions....

Have you tried going into P or Auto mode and opening up the flash there?

If in fact your on-board flash has broken, It might not be a bad idea to look into an external flash for your camera.

It seems like you use your flash quite often, and the flexibility from an external flash can be very nice.

Just a suggestion.

Hope all works out soon!

Yes, I have tried with Auto mode and manually opening the flash - but it still does not go off.
I do have an external flash and have used it - but it doesn't work as well for close up photos which is what I seem to do most often.

Is your battery fully charged? Maybe it has drained to the point where the flash won't operate anymore?

Dumb suggestion maybe, but sometimes it's the simple things.

That happened to me. My onboard flash wouldn't charge up but the camera still worked for a bit, not long though, 3 or 4 shots.

There are options for turning it off in camera, i'm sure you checked your settings.

I was pretty sure battery was fully charged but I just switched it out with a backup charged battery and still having the same issue.
I cannot find anywhere in camera where I can turn the flash off? If someone could point me in the right direction...I would like to check that possibility as well.

When you have the camera in

mode and press the shutter button half way, do you see the flash icon in the viewfinder?
