I think I spotted more than a few that started as color images...I will make sure I punish them severely when I get around to voting.

You are kidding, right? Common sense says NEVER EVER EVER use the B&W filter in-camera. You can do a better job in PP that the camera can in PP (and it IS post-processing, the sensor is still picking up the color). And then you have a color version if you like as well.

I must clarify....if it appears that the photog used any tools whether in camera or post processing to convert the image from color to b/w...

??????????????????????????

You wanted shots of black and white objects in color?

Wow, you got something out of the challenge description I doubt anyone else did.

A few years ago, my family went out to visit Yosemite for vacation. Imagine my surprise and horror that Yosemite was not in black and white...and to think that Ansel Adams was fooling us all this time...

Sorry Lonewolf... this was my very subtle attempt at humor to poke fun at individuals who voted the recent Purple challenge entries down that used post processing to give their images a great purple hue.

Hmm, that's the most unbelieveable comment I have seen on this board, where does it state in the challenge description that the image must start out as a B&W? Looking at your previous work I see you have a portrait of a couple of lads (which is a very nice image I must say), are you suggesting this started out as a B&W image and that you did no post processing to convert it to B&W? If so respect to you but I doubt very much that it did, in which case why did you choose to shoot the image in colour and convert it in PP? I suspect as Hawkeyelonewolf has suggested

The scores for this challenge are low enough already for most people without someone taking it upon themselves to hammer them down further unnecessarily - If the rules have been adhered to and the image fits the challenge then why should there be a heavy penalty?

It seems that some people actually believe everything they read...

post script...sorry for zooming over your head Mark!

But actually, my sons have a very rare skin pigment conditions that results in their rather drab b/w look... it is all very sad really, the ribbing they take at school and all.

I did convert my picture to b & w but honestly I love it in its real colored form which is almost all black and white anyhow but a bit of red.....my daughter asked for it to be blown up to use in her apartment at college and another of her friends did too so if I get nothing else out of this weeks challenge I made to college students happy =0)

This is too funny - I was just voted low by someone because my black & white subject wasn't converted to B&W! I didn't even consider converting it - just shot a black and white thing and submitted the photo! Guess I should have read this thread first - that'll teach me. (Trying to keep my sense of humor here...)

I was going to submit a nice image, but changed my mind. Now that it's in voting stage, I'm looking at the photographs and thinking that if I had submitted mine, it would have done reasonably well.

Shucks. Oh well.

You spins the wheel, you takes your chances.

Is there a way to see the score distribution on entries during voting? Some people are noting that they just got a 2 or a 4, etc... Other than the average provided by the addictive [Update] button, I assume that some comments are including the scores, or some people are keeping track of the score vote to vote and backing out the value of the recent score with math.

Yup. Math is involved.

Dang It!! I was hoping otherwise!! (and relatively continuous tracking in a spreadsheet in order to be able to back out each new single new score seems like a LOT of trouble--I am trying to limit those [Update] clicks, not increase them) A nifty little button on the site here would be Sweet--imagine watching the scores plot over time as the deadline neared :-)

Hmm I guess that it depends if there is any colour in the image after all it is a B&W challenge, I think any colour in an image causes it to therefore be DNMC surely?

I admit I have voted 2 images low for having colour in them I've also commented why I have done so.

I admit I have done the same to one image, but with a comment explaining why.
