Can you use Lightroom in basic editing challenges? Also, I'm a newbie to Lightroom as I using the free trial version and I'm wondering how you preserve the orignal photo and where do I find the file info on the pic. Thank you for help in advance.

Lightroom can be used for basic editing though not all of the tools within the program can.

For example, the new brush tool cannot be used in basic as it does selections.

The original is always preserved when using LR since all the editing is non-destructive.

What file info are you looking for?

hit the letter 'i' on your keyboard when you have an image selected. Keep hitting it, it cycles through image info.

If by chance you have CS3, might i suggest doing your Basic editing in Camera Raw? just open the directory containing your jpeg's, or raw files in Bridge, then right click on the pic, and cliick "open in Camera RAw" According to my research, basically anything in Camera Raw is legal for Basic editing...

again... if you have CS3, open bridge and all the camera shutter speed, ect... is shown in a little box on the right in the shape of a camera LCD screen....
