So this is what my lovely forest looks like today. The flooding is getting close to my pond now and that's not good. Ugh, the mosquitos in the next few days are going to be horrid.
I had to be out & about this morning, saw debris absolutely everywhere and every creek and river I passed was out of its banks. Today's forecast: more rain. :/

As much as I hate to keep kicking this thread.... Fay hates me.
Today we, Clay co. got hit with 6" of additional rain in about 4 hours, an outer band or a freak thunderstorm, whatever. The flooding in the forest finally caught up with my pond. I expected the water would flow over, but since it was coming from downhill...
... well all of the floodwater rushed under the pond's liner and filled the pond's space. Lets just say my goldfish now live in the forest. It was almost dark when my friends and I tried catching what fish we could, we got 2.
The rush came in so fast, it washed the boulders off the pond's edge. I'm so frustrated. Not sure how to rebuild it. ;?
Will try to get pics in the morning.

That's too bad about the fish Cindi. We had a storm like that a couple of days ago, but it is drying out some here now, and back to our normal evening shower pattern. Water in this area is still moving around, some places getting deeper, and others drying off some. On the whole, it is better, and the trouble spots are smaller but more serious. I am lucky that I live only a block from the local river which is controlled with locks, so my yard dries out within hours of a heavy rain event.
I am just happy that the hurricane was not as windy as it was wet, and that we didn't get flooding like they had in Judi's hometown in Au last summer. Hurricane season is not over yet though. : P

umm
Am I a bad person for enjoying the time spent with the storm? I feel bad for those who got hit hard by it, but... I'm still happy for me. But reading this thread makes me feel a bit guilty. |

Don't feel bad about enjoying the storm. Live comes at you wide open, and we should face each day with joy whenever possible. I also enjoy going out on a porch when it is storming and watching the rain and wind.

Thanks, the only time I've had as much fun getting soaked was Francis, however losing power for a week with no windows for air, and no way to dry clothes wasn't fun at all, lol. |

It's so wet that the wading birds are wanting to dry their feet now.
The storms cause great sunsets for a while when they are coming or going though.

Don't look now, but it seems that we may be in for another round with T S 7, the new storm off Haiti now. Prediction is that it will strengthen to 60-75 mph winds later this week. It is on the same northward track that brought Fay to us.

Just for fun, I thought I'd string these together....
Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Today (Monday).
Had to be out all morning, but got a shot this afternoon. As you can see, the pond water is the same gross color as the flood now and already has tadpoles in it. I threw some big rocks in to hold the liner down and along the back edge I put back some of the ones that fell in in hopes of holding that side in place. I'll still have to re-dig it because much of the wall closest to the forest collapsed...but can't do anything until it dries up some.
We got lucky today and missed the last (predicted) big TS. Rest of the week is just usual weather pattern with afternoon showers. The news said it could be 3 months before all of our flooding is gone. :(

The sign says "No Wake" The house at the end of this road still has water in the floors.
Monday afternoon in the rain. We got another 1.4 inches this afternoon. but not over the whole area, only local big showers.
We are in the rain from the tail end of tropical storm Fay. Where or what is Caylee? We have tropical storm, almost hurricane, Gustav coming our way, which will be giving us more big rains next week if it moves the way they say that it will.

The remnants of Fay are lingering over "me" as I type. :)
We have had steady rainfall for almost 24 hours now.
The rivers are *almost* up to a normal level.

I'm not sure if it is our normal afternoon thunderstorm activity, or if we are still getting "Fay'ed", but we got 3.5 inches of fresh rain this evening at my neighbors rain guage. It's sort of soggy here again now.

Awesome shots everyone. I hope y'all have dried out by now.
It's a little late, but I finally got around to looking at my Fay photos.
We rode up the San Sebastian River, which feeds into the Indian River Lagoon. It was so high that docks were completely submerged. The river was so changed that we took a wrong turn and found ourselves motoring over grass that usually stands over three feet tall.
These chairs are sitting on a dock that should be three or four feet above the water line.
This flooding event gives us only a small taste of what Gustav is about to do to the Gulf Coast. My thoughts are constantly with all of those who are in the path of that storm.

Roxanne glad to hear you made it through the storm OK, seems the water doesn't want to go away anytime soon.
