I know a lot of people posted that chased the Lighroom upgrade as soon as it was released. Now that its been a couple weeks, do you still find the upgrade was worth the money and have there been any serious bugs/issues that have arisen?

I had problems with Lightroom when it first came out that were addressed in the first version bump and then issues again in 1.4 that took another patch, so I'm being a bit more cautious before jumping up to v2.

Thanks

LR 2.0 is 1000% better than LR 1.4.

There are many things included now like selective non-destructive editing. I've used this more in LR than I've ever used comparable tools in PS. To me it's much more user friendly.

I've just read on another forum (there are others, really!) about people having trouble with 'lag'. Is anyone here experiencing the same travails?

Yes, when you use the local adjustment brush, LR2 tends to slow down. I'd simply recommend that you use it sparingly. Use it primarily when you think you'll save time (versus round-tripping through Photoshop).

Personally, I'm quite pleased with 2.0. They've made a lot of improvements that really make this release shine.

I've noticed the slow down when using the adjustment brush as well. Mostly when the auto mask is turned on.

I mentioned it in another thread on this topic but I'll state it again, I noticed that as long as you paint your mask first, then apply the adjustment, there is little to no lag at all. I usually set the mask to show while painting to make sure I cover all that needs to be adjusted and not to cover anything that I don't want touched. When done I go apply the desired adjustment, works great for me as I was getting severe lag when letting the adjustment be applied while painting, unbearable lag.

How do you set it to not apply while painting?

No problems here. My reason for upgrading was the better keywording options, plus the smart folders, which make it so much easier to find images.

When you select the paint brush, don't adjust any of the sliders until you are done painting. When you start to paint you can go to the marker point and it shows your mask, if you press O while over that point it keeps the mask on while you paint showing you everywhere you have applied the mask. When you are done painting you go back to the marker point and hit O again so the mask doesn't appear on the screen(it's still there). Go to the sliders and start adjusting whatever it is you want to adjust. Hope that helps.

Do the sliders have to be at zero when painting for this to work?

Yup, make sure all adjustment sliders(exposure, brightness, sharpness clarity ect...) everything is at 0. Brush size and what not doesn't matter.

Thanks. At one point it was fast and then it turned into a slug and I couldn't figure out why. It all makes sense now.

ETA: It still slows down to nothing when you start making adjustments. There's no indication of when it's finished the update so if you move the cursor the sliders start their own thing making adjustments at random.

ETA2: Cleaning up the hard drive help alot with performance.

ETA3: Googling the issue produces lots of forum discussion, the best being on FM as one determined user called Adobe and was advised that they are aware of the problem and are working on the solution. No date for the 2.1 patch though. Hopefully soon.
