It obviously doesnt. I'd say there is an issue with the sync circuit.

Matt

well it flashes bright enough to blind me for a few minutes. and it flashes when the shutter goes, so how would the sync be wrong? im confused...

If you have it mounted on the camera or on a OCC and it fires when you push the shutter but isnt lighting up the photo, even in manual mode, then you are firing it, but not in sync. This is a function where it fires while the shutter is open. If you are using ETTL and not manual mode, try manual and see what happens, maybe the issue is with the ETTL then.

Matt

ok im not finding where to switch this to manual. i have a rebel xti, do you knwo how to set it?

I dont think the 220EX has a manual mode, your stuck with ETTL and if its not working, you need to send it in.

In the event that something like this happens again (hopefully not!) check your warranty to see if it covers the accident. Know that if you take the flash/any piece of equipment apart, you will VOID your warranty and any coverage you had will be useless. So I wouldn't take it apart unless you have no warranty coverage and it's completely dead even when fully dry.

I make my living asking people obvious questions, so this may seem obvious, but here goes....

What's the shutter speed on your camera set to?

Exactly. I generally let mine fall on concrete. All the little pieces stay dry that way.

I'm not clumsy at all. I cracked the screens of two nice point N shoot cameras in one week last week. One was a Fuji 8.3mp (my wifes) and the other a Vivitar 12mp. The Fuji got dropped when the velcro let go on the belt strap, and the Vivitar was on my belt when I pushed a door shut with my hip. Oops. It's a good thing I enjoy shopping eBay.
I hope that you get your flash problem solved soon.

it works fine... i just does sync:) so i can blind myself with it easily, but cant take any photos with it

Didn't really take the time to read all the posts here but first things is first, put it in a bag with a bunch of those silica gel packets that you can get your hands on. Don't turn it on for at least a week, all hope is not lost. My D200 fell in a river and didn't work for 3 weeks and I was bummed that I had just wasted 1000 bucks... week 4 put a battery in it and works like a charm absolutely nothing wrong! Be patient and keep us updated! :)

it may look like it is flashing properly, but if its 5/100ths of a second off the shutter, the shutter is open and closed and your flash then goes off....you wouldnt see/hear the time issue...but its there and your pictures wouldnt show a flash

Sounds like an anomoly in the space-time continuum.

so would it work to manually adjust the camera settings so that the shutter is open a wee bit longer or is there really nothing that can be done for it?

For the record, if you tell a novice to remove the battery of a wet electronic device also tell them to KEEP it removed. May sound obvious but after my daughter's phone went in the ocean a tiny bit I told her to remove the battery but then I did it myself, cleaned the phone up and all was good UNITL she had it in her backpack and her friend put in a large container of soda and it spilt on it (we were at Universal Studios). Sure she remembered to remove the battery but then she put it back in so she didn't lose it. By the time I find out about it and removed it from her backpack it was very hot to the touch. I quickly removed the battery and told her she was now without a phone. Actually surprising enough, when we got home two weeks later I took the thing (razr) apart and cleaned it alot (I microwaved water to almost boiling then submurged it a few times to release any sticky soda left in it, then left it apart in the car (no baggy)). The only thing that wouldn't work properly was the number pad, yeah I know the most important part lol, and the battery was completly fried. I have since used parts of it to fix my razor when the display suddenly went out.

Good luck on your flash...if it is totally broken you can always just find a trenchcoat. ;)

It's actually superheating and quite uncommon. If there cup is extremely clean and smooth and there are no nucleation sites it can happen. (Those bubbles in your carbonated beverage are formed at nucleation sites.)
