i don't necessarily want to "support" this auctioneer, since i have no idea on the quality.. although other sales of many many cameras have all received good feedback (even identical listings for the dsc-f717), but i snagged one advertised as "like new" condition, with all the original accessories plus an extra 32mb (making 2) and rechargeable battery (making 2) for $570 after shipping. if anybody is interested, the other buy it now auction is here:
//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2966036251&category=48543&rd=1

there's also someone selling their dsc-f717 in "like new" condition with the original accessories (no mention of manual, so you might want to look into that) and a lowepro tlz 1 and circular polarizer filter for $575 buy it now price ($590 with shipping)..
//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2965474165&category=48543&rd=1

of course, i don't want to take responsibility if there's a problem down the road.. so, please make your own judgement and do some research :) - just thought i would try to pass these on, as brand new ones are often selling for almost $600 (or more, w/o shipping) with no extra accessories.

it looks like the first seller has auctioned off a lot of dsc-f717s at low prices (although most were $575 + shipping.. not sure why these are $25 cheaper), so there might be more to come.. i can always post again if anybody's interested in my experience with the seller.

There would need to be a much better discount off the original price to make this wortwhile. I find that the best stuff to buy on ebay are things like filters and memory cards - no moving parts in general and much less risk of disappointment. I recently got a 340MB CompactFlash card for less than $50. Now that's a sizeable discount. The card was brand new and works perfectly.

Sounds like a reasonable deal if everything works out. I would just wonder how one seller comes to have several "like new" 717's ?

looks like they both have been sold via buy it now already - wonder if my forum post had anything to do with it.
and, yeah.. i have no idea why they would have so many "like new" cameras.. one has to hope they're not refurbished, i suppose.. but could be a camera trade-in shop or something along those lines. :shrug:

=\ i'm not sure if the seller is just dishonest or made a mistake (i'm leaning toward the former), but I received a dsc-f717 BOX with a dsc-f707 camera and manual inside... which is still a great camera from what i've read, but it looks like i paid a bit too much for it.. the auction very clearly stated the 717, but i haven't gotten any responses from this seller so i might be tough outta luck =(.. was hoping to get an exchange or a partial refund (f717's are only selling for $40 or $50 more on eBay than the f707).. so, i guess i've received my first bad eBay purchasing experience thus far.. at least i got a good condition, working camera out of it - even if i did overpay.. could've been worse i suppose =(.. just a warning to everyone out there.. i hope if i encouraged someone else to buy the other buy it now auction, they end up with a 717.. a very shady seller, indeed (e-mailed yesterday afternoon, no response yet)

The photo in the Ebay page is even an F717. I would contact Ebay, PayPal and file a fraud complaint. I read the page and it read that you are buying an F717.

Just a bit of info 5 days ago I bought Sony F717 at our local
HHGregg store 799 with Gragg 75 Dollar coupon. Sony started a $100 rebate the day I bought mine NOV 23 2003 which brought my price down to
$624. new that is when I get my rebate back. Just thought I would pass this along

yeah - the seller says they'll replace it, but they're very slowly and unclear in their responses about how to go about this, so it looks like it might take awhile. if i had known about the $624 from a retail dealer, I probably would've done that - but already have my money invested here.. thanks for the info, though :)
