yeah I've gone through challenges without getting comments, it sucks, but there are tons of people who will critique it if you don't get enough, like me for one, if you have a question, just shoot me a pm, and ask me to comment on it after the challenge is over and I'll be glad to give you an honest critique.

Hi Liam, yes comments on your pics help you (mostly) however, they don't come fast and free (unless your image rocks/sucks). IMHO a much better way to 'learn' is to comment on others pictures as you tend to be unbiased and will most definately learn from the work of your peers :)
Or, if your wanting comments post challenge is always a good time to put a shot in the forum and ask for input ;)

I'll second Ecce's post about making comments yourself as a better way to learn than receiving comments. It forces you to study what you like or dislike and sometimes gives you ideas about what you would do differently or the same.
It truly is better to give than to receive. |

...let me add that you can also learn a lot from lack of comments received, as well as the score. Typically, no comments received = mediocre image and usually the score will reflect it (4.5 - 5.5). That tells you you didn't do anything terribly wrong in your image, but you didn't do anything to grab voters attention either. |

As usual 89 votes no comments. What else is new! |

What about the DPC critique club? How do you know if they've given a critique? I always click on the thing saying I want an in depth critique but how do I know if someone from the group has given it? BTW I'm in purple with 94 votes and no comments. I normally only get three or four during any given challenge. |

Since the very last comment I received had the word "dull" in it...truly, I couldn't agree more.

Well, I had to go look after this thread. . . I have 52 challenge entries, and (including the two currently in voting), I have never had an entry go the entire week without a single comment. (My lowest number of comments is 1, and that was on a very average entry.) |

A lack of comments is itself a comment. It's saying that the people that viewed your photo weren't moved, either to help with suggestions for improvement, or to praise a job well done. Generally, the best and worst photos get the most comments, and the large group in the middle gets fewer. I think it often happens that photos in this middle group are good, but not good enough. They're good enough that many voters don't know what advice to offer for improvement, but not good enough that they feel moved to praise the photo.
So, if you want more comments, you have two choices; be real good or suck real bad.
