SO there is a yoga man that has just started his own biz. It is going along nicely, he asked me to take some shots of him. I would love to.

What I would really like to do is a dark black but conveying warm black room, with soft shadows and sort o snoot lights on him, very dramitic.

Now I can do this with light painting, but holding a pose for 30 seconds is pretty darn tough when you have your legs wrapped around your neck etc.

How would you light this.

A snoot from above and one side, or soft boxes . I am lost as I do nto use light boxs much. I do have 2 light box thingys and a snoot light thing and barn doors though if that helps.

Anyone have any ideas???

Juliet, I would suggest a trial self portrait. It would give a better visual for the lighting gurus. ;)

Roflmao, I can not remember the last time i had my legs around my neck!!!

there is a photo that i remember from here of a ballerina bowing with her hands outstretched with flour or talc coming out of them to give it drama, but i can not find it.

I am off to search some more!!

i think the room is very important. what does is look like? a clean, uncluttered space would seem right. i first thought of this by louis [thumb]597303[/thumb]

look through some of his other stuff. he has some very peaceful settings with beautiful lighting.

It's too bad that you live in "Too Stoned, AZ" else I would pop right over and give that helping hand.

So, I'll leave you with two thoughts.

Home Depot is the poor mans lighting source.

There is no correct way to light, but, there are plenty of wrong ways.

Thomas, I wish you would hold a workshop, I would so fly out to be in it!

thanks for the reassurance, but, frankly, if I had a workshop, and you as my student, I'm afraid the Jack would be pour'in, and our cameras and lights would be neglected.

I'm just a hack.

Thread title change request: Bottle of Jack needed please! :P

Thom's always got great advice on lighting and as suggested, a trip through Louis' stuff should spawn some ideas and maybe drag him in here and pour him a shot as well.
