Hey all,

I can pick up a used D50 for pretty cheap (200$) but the guy says that the flash ALWAYS fires (except in landscape mode) - even when its in it's pocket.

First question: Anyone ever had this problem before? If so, what did you do with it?

Second Q: I'd like to disconnect the flash as I'm thinking of buying this camera to convert it to IR.. anyone ever done so???

Thanks!

Why not just tape it closed? If your doing IR then it's probably more landscape anyway, so it will not hurt the battery much if it just fires while taped down. But then I'm a low tech sort :-)

Try the two finger reset as well as a firmware upgrade to hope its something in settings.
If the flash is still down I guess it wont affect the exposure just the battery life.

I like the idea of a firmware update.. indeed it does sound like its a software problem.

Thanks!

is the button that pops up the flash possibly jammed?
