Whew Glad to hear it. This is an emotional issue and Forums are notoriously problematic when it comes to conveying the emotional intent(the feelings) of someones message. All parents are concerned, there are just different ways to cope with the concern and none of them is more right than any other.

Any published references from the press? This is the stuff that keeps urban legends like that alive. (applies to peeing on the tracks and the child abduction scare)

A Polish tourist has died after being electrocuted when he urinated on a railway track at a busy London station.

The 41-year-old died at about 5.20pm on July 12 at Vauxhall Station in the south of the capital, British Transport Police said.

A spokesman confirmed that he had walked on to the track at platform 1 where he was electrocuted.

Well I'll be damned. Thanks for the story. Here's a link to Snopes debunking another claim (warning, shocking pictures) and somebody already posted the Mythbuster's link above. I'm still skeptical (he could have died from other causes, including just touching the electrified rail) but this is pretty wide media coverage.

What point were you attempting to make with these links, I see nothing here to say that hiding your children from the world will stop things from happening and I see no information to show that these events happened because someone saw the children in the paper or on TV. In Fact what I do see were comments about people asking for directions which strengthens the need to educate your children because you will not always be by their side.
