So whats the difference? And why would I use one over the other?

Never used an airbrush, eh? Flow is how much "paint" gets on the canvas at once. And opacity, is, of course how opaque the paint is. I tend to adjust only opacity because "flow" leaves overlap lines if its not 100%. Guess it depends on the effect you're going for. But the settings are very much similar to using an airbrush....where opacity would be how much you watered the paint down and flow would be how much paint you apply at once.

I've only ever used opacity (I dont think Elements 2.0 even had a flow option and thats what I was using for years). But as I am watching some action tutorials they are adjusting the flow rather than the opacity and I wasnt really sure what the difference was. Thanks for the explanation. And nope - I have never used an airbursh.

I found a one-liner that says it pretty well:

"Flow controls how many passes of the mouse it will take to build up to the amount of paint specified by the Opacity."

Yeah I've never used it to actually paint with but I do use it all the time to build masks especially when doing dodge and burn via curve and or exposure adjustment layers. It's great for that.
