I sat my 3-year-old on my lap because she wanted to help me vote on the ducky challenge. OK, she wanted to see "more duckies" images. She can count to 10 but she doesn't vote with numbers. She insisted on saying "This is good" ... or "This is bad" and that was the extent of her review. I call it the Ebert and Sis ... I mean Roeper method. Strangely, her opinion didn't seem to meet the status quo of what the usual voters seem to think - I'm not really sure how she determined what was good and what was "bad" but the discovery of that is something i look forward to in my life.
I must say, I was relieved when she gave me the thumb's-up on my image. I'm not sure what sort of learning experience this provides to her, but it was amusing to me - and heck, any peaceful time I share with her is good in my book.
I guess if there is a lesson from this for me, it would be that we all see things a bit differently - and the mystery of youth certainly has its merits for us fully grown folks. |

I'd be really interested to know what your 3-year old thought of my entry - my 6-year old set it up. |

I have a friend in work that likes to look over my shoulder while I vote and I have let him pick all the votes on a few challenges. Anything with an cute animal in it gets at least a 5 from him, where I could care less about cuteness. My "bad" photos get 8s and 9s and my "good" ones gets 1s and 2s (not that I have any good ones) so it is very subjective anyway.
On a related note, my 9 year old has very stong feelings about photo composition and I have let him lay out the props in some of my side challenges photos and he insistst that he be given credit in the photo description! |

I recently asked my 8 year old granddaughter to tell me what she thought of some of my potential entries for a recent challenge. Some of what I thought were the best ones she did not like. Kids most certainly do not look at the same things as adults. I think they judge more on the "fun factor" than anything else. |

I'm interested to know what she thought of my ducky image ... whether she thought it was 'good' or 'bad' ... I wasn't particularaly in love with the shot, but had to enter something onaccounta the 'better than average side tourney' ...

How very sweet, Tate! And what a lovely way to view the world. We all need to stop and look at things through three-year old eyes sometimes. Really makes us appreciate the finer things in life. Thanks for sharing! |

Perhaps she needs her own alternative ribbon style ... the "MetaAda" ribbons (her name is Ada :)
