My father called me and said that he is having an issue placing photos on his 2G sandisk SD card for his digital photo frame. He had about 183 photos on the card taking up very little space, 31.5mb to be exact. When he went to put additional photos on the card he gets the following error message:

Cannot copy (file name which is a photo)" The directory or file cannot be created.

He still has 1.87G of memory left on the card so it's not a size issue. He's tried clearing all photos and still has the same issue. Anyone have this problem before or know a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did he try reformatting the card or did he use the erase function?

Try putting the photos into a subfolder, instead of straight into the root of the card.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did some more searching as well and saw a post that he should format the card to FAT32. He did and that seems to allow him to add as many files as he likes up to the 2GB. The issue now is that one of his computers will not recognize the card. Also, when the card is plugged into the frame , the frame flashes in between photos. I told him to reformat it back to the old format and try the folder solution, I heard that works as well so I will post and let you know. Thanks!

The FAT32 solution will be related to the folder suggestion. The old style FAT16 had a severe limit on the number of files or folders that could be in the root directory.

Found the following info with a quick search:

Disadvantages of FAT16 are:
â€Â¢The root folder can manage a maximum of 512 entries. The use of long file names can significantly reduce the number of available entries.

Not totally sure of the issue with one computer not seeing the card, but I have had similar issues with some flashcards and thumbdrives. Some makes seem to require more current to run than the USB bus can provide. You may need to use a different brand of flashcard. They are cheap enough these days.
