Found this big guy sitting in a kayak on a lake in Vermont. Maybe 5 inches across. These are the best macros I could get with my 70-200 lens, which happened to be on the camera at the moment. :)

Can't help you with the name but if you zoom in the image on the right to just the body it looks like some tribal head hunter mask.

Looks like a Wolf Spider or Fisher Spider

lol, yes it looks like a Wolf spider. Just a few words of caution about them. They can be aggressive, I've been "attacked" by them before, they are able to jump several inches onto your legs or feet. They can give mild irritation if bitten for some people. They can have up to 8000 babies in their lifetime, and several hundred at any one time. |

One cool thing about them is that they have 8 eyes. You can clearly see the row of 4 in the second picture and, less clearly, 2 bigger ones just above that. The other two are smaller and above/outward of the bigger 2. :) |

We had one as a class pet when I was in grade school. The teacher kept it in a terrarium. It had lots of creepy little babies.
