Me: I took some fabulous pictures of the sunset, I love them, what do you think?
Father: I could do better with a point and shoot.

~~~
Brother: hows the photography coming along?
Me: Great, I am really en.........
Brother: Yeah I tell all my friends you make soft porn
Me: wha...
Brother: Yeah I am so embarrassed by your photography, but we all have a laugh at you for doing it.
~~
Me: I made a photo for Lily Grace in her honour.
Mother: Oh My God, its a man, how dare you even think that that is appropriate, do not ever show this to your brother or sister in law.
Father: Dear God, what is it?
~~
Me: I have been to Cape COd, New York, the Grand Canyon this year to take photos
Father: thats nice, have you seen my new car it cost $160,000
Mother: Where is Evie, she is such a good granddaughter unlike your lot whose manners are just so rude.
Sounds like there are some people who are not very appreciative of your efforts, creativity or personal endeavors. Don't let their lack of interest deter yours.
I have found that when people, even family, can do nothing but criticize or put down, there is usually some other aspect/area they are really unhappy with or perhaps even envious of.
Wow...and I thought my family was bad. Darlin, my heart goes out to you!! I so know how that feels. My mom and dad weren't ever bad but as my ex-sister (yes I has disowned her) she takes the cake on being rude! Big hugs to you!!
Send them to Amsterdam... they'll never think what you do is porn after that :)
or you could just tip off the authorities that they might have links to terrorists... that aught to get rid of them for a while...lol
All joking aside, I'm sorry to hear that, I know how frustrating family can be
*hugs*
Do not 'tar' all Brits with this brush.
Glad you had a nice time here.
can't choose your family
should of had a GTG
dont worry you will be back in the good ol US of A real soon.
Oh that is the nice stuff that they say to me, trust me, that is quite civilized. Compared to the other. They didnt talk to me for a week as I disagred on something related to ISO and I was wrong as it came from me and my Dad was correct cos you have to have the ISO up to 1600 on a bright sunny day.
As for a GTG, humph, well, I have been here for 7 weeks, I have had a total of 7 hours free time to myself, and 2 of those was when i went to the Doctors.
They do not want to handle my children, but they will babysit my neice for 6 days and nights when there parents go off on vacation.
It has been a nightmare, the low self confidence level that you reach is desperate. I am so physially and mentally tired from having my kids for 24 hours a day for the last 7 weeks with no break apart from sleeping, which averages out to be about 6 hours a night if you are lucky.
All I can say is thank goodness we have our own house and car so we can escape in case they pop over. And i know i shouldnt be bitching and moaning about them, but 7 weeks of pent up frustration is and has to go somewhere
Don't worry about it. Your photos are... wait, did you say your Dad had a $160,000 car? Ooh, what kind is it? I bet it's really cool! Does he have any pictures?
-sorry, couldn't resist. :-P
Seriously though, some people just don't get how important our photography is to us. Then there are some who can't get enough of seeing new photos we've taken, always asking if we have anything new to show them. And sometimes (and I speak for myself here too) we constantly inundate our family with photos, so unless we have a spectacular photo of the Loch Ness Monster eating a fishing boat under a stormy sky with a rainbow, their reactions are sometimes less-than receptive. Sometimes it's just easier to just weed out that audience than to hear the BS "hey, that's great" (read: "I don't give a sh*t") replies. Keep up your great work, and don't be discouraged by a less-than receptive audience, even if it's family.
Thanks MAK, I will keep it in mind for next year (urrrghghghghghhg)
We leave on Tuesday, and I am so glad to be going home, even if it is 105 degrees and raining!!!
Tele, hahaha, my Mum had the same car too now, I even offered to photograph them, but was told that they would get a proffesional in, so I let my brothers dog wee all over the wheels lol
If it makes you feel any better, My parents in law still think we're just kids running a lemonade stand (metaphorically... don't think I could really sell lemonaid for $2000 a cup lol), never mind that we gros more over the summer alone then her used bookstore (yes, a used book store) could ever hope to gross all year...
sometimes family just sucks, and yes they re your family, but no you do not have to put yourself in the position of being abused by them... not matter how nice their cars are :)
Juliet,
I was just heart broken by your post you wrote today. What has been said is not fair to you or your lovely children. I'm sure you will be happy to get back home to the rest of your family and friends.
Keep the great photos coming.
Thank you guys, I swear you act more like a family towards me than my own do. You all said the best things that a person could say for the situation that i was in right then. I seriously thought i was going to go postal. It did eventually get worse with a huge blowout the night before we left. BUT we are back home and we will more than likely not be going back next year to let things settle down a little.
So to each of you of, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
