Probably already been said, but simply having another box to fill in would be appreciated. I would fill in the focal length if there was a field for doing so.

As a totally uneducated ammy (aka "point-and-shooter" lol), I seriously disagree w/ making any more settings mandatory.

Most of the time I have no clue what I'm doing. Even when I play w/ the camera settings I don't keep a record of what I did for which shot (not even whether or not I used a filter). I don't really care. I just try a bunch of things and then later (sometimes much later) see which looks best when I pull the images up on the computer screen. If it's not in the EXIF, I probably can't tell you the settings for a particular shot. I might remember that I was changing up the aperature or trying out the "landscape" preset or a new filter, but I might not.

Maybe this is what keeps me out of the ribbons, but it's where I am in my "photography journey" right now.

Anyone that knows me from various DPC forums, etc...will know I'm certainly not an advocate of extreme digital manipulation. I'm quite glad that the "Expert Editing" challenges have gone away. IMO it was over the top. However, having said that, I do realize that some post-processing is needed to tweak/enhance a photo after capture. This is not that far from what well known photographers have done in the past working with film in the darkroom. If Ansel Adams took his negatives directly to print (without various solutions, washings, etc...in the darkroom) he wouldn't be known today nearly as well, if at all.

An artist doesn't display their sketches that a final painting is produced from, nor should a photographer have to reveal their "magic" if they care not to.

i guess i've changed my mind. i don't think it should be mandatory, but this is a site for learning and while i wouldn't want anyone to give away their secrets, it's nice to see the settings that people use to get their results. i have really learned a lot from this site and appreciate the generosity of the talented people who do provide their setting information. focal length would be a nice addition.
