"Maverick"

I mean Sidney. :)

John McCain might have been a maverick at one time, but he's closed ranks with his party on so many issues recently. He's just another Republican puppet, toeing the party line.

This is totally uncalled for and a personal attack.

How so????

His name is Barack Hussein Obama, is it not? And the Obamanation joke is really pretty funny.

I'm curious also...how was that a personal attack? Obama fans are quite defensive of the use of his full name it seems?

I mean, it's not like I called him this: [thumb]708143[/thumb] :)!

Does anyone stop to consider that the "maverick" is the one who goes off to seek his own pleasures, not the one who stands by to protect the herd?

I don't think its defensive about the full use of his name. I think it comes down to people who use his full name and try to put the "muslim" fear into peoples heads. Its not socially acceptable to attack him based on race, so instead fear mongers want to play the religion card, which is based on a lie. Its sad that we live in a society where anyone would be afraid of someone based on their religion. It shows how little we've progressed in 100 years, despite thinking we are an advanced society. Imagine the outrage if a candidate was attacked for having a "catholic" sounding name.

edit to add .... McCain tied to terroist organization

Also, to keep somewhat on subject. I found the first few seconds of Paris Hilton's clip funny. But, honestly, my opinion of Paris is so low that I had trouble finding her remotely funny.

Um... DailyKos? That the best you can do?

And sorry, but radical Muslims put the "Muslim Fear" into people's heads. You get some Muslims claiming the Koran doesn't say murder non-Muslims for being non-Muslims, religion of peace, etc. You get other Muslims claiming it does. Which is right? I doubt many would attack Obama for his race these days. It's his policies that are the problem and detrimental to America. I don't care what shade of brown he is (we all are).

And the policies of the current administration have worked soooooooo well. I just don't understand why anyone would want to change the current party in the White House. I mean just look at the results. Gas prices are low, unemplyment is down, housing foreclosures are down, we're at peace, no one is dying in a mismanaged war, are allies love us, the rest of the world respects us. Man times are good.

Go ahead and move this to rant now! ;-)

Have you ever read the Koran? I have. Like the bible there are many versions. Much like Christian scholars and teachers, the teachers of Islam tend to choose the one that fits their particular view. As for the DailyKos- its a JOKE!! I see your sense of humor doesn't extend to jokes about McCain. How sad. No, not many people would attack Obama for his race, at least not in public, but because of an ignorance about Islam its socially acceptable to degrade and deride an entire religion based upon the actions of a small percentage of its practitioners (albeit that works out to a rather large number given there are about 1.2 billion Muslims in the world). People often act out in fear of things that they do not understand, the attempts to make people believe Obama is a muslim are the acts of the ignorant, attempting to play on those who are as, or more, ignorant as themselves.

This thread should be getting locked in a few minutes.

Hmm. Then why is all the conversation about his name, religion, color, etc. I have not read one policy statement here for or against Obama or McCain. Not even from you.

edit: at least Paris talked policy. Go Paris!

There is ONE version of the Bible. Many translations.

Housing foreclosures are UP because banks lent money to people who should never have gotten loans. The majority of the places they are UP is where the housing bubble burst and homes were over valued.

Egads the myths that get started with a liberal media.

And you guys blamed Carter for high interest rates. If it happens on your watch, you will get the blame - fair or not. I noticed you didn't take issue with anything else in the list.

And save the "blame the messenger" nonsense. Liberal media or not, this administration is a total failure on any measurement scale you can imagine. Well, maybe not every one, Haliburton did OK over the last 8 years with all that influx of tax payer money, so that's good.

Somehow, I don't think it was Democratic contributors who made those predatory/ill-advised loans; it's clearly my impression that the "financial sector" and the Republican Party share interests and ethics which are virtually indistunguishable.

Ask yourself, who made money out of the "housing crisis," and why?

Actually, despite the endorsement of the "white-haired guy" Paris is probably not eligible to be President, as I sincerely suspect her of being younger than 35.

Though as the current administration has proven, she is totally prepared to be President, I mean, she has rich parents and knows lots of other rich and famous people and all ...

Now we̢۪re talking, policy that is. Your analysis of the housing market issue is however a bit thin. Although your answer is not untrue it is only part of the problem. Without going to deep (I really have other things to do and just happened to notice this) it is actually less of the issue than the fact that lax government oversight and regulation allowed things to get out of control. This is a similar issue as the Savings and Loan debacle that occurred under Bush I (and of which McCain was intimately involved I might add). Look at the failed banks so far. Most were involved in derivatives (bundling of unsound loans to make them look more acceptable) and ended up with losses they could not withstand. So the good old USA comes riding in and bailed them out while the CEO̢۪s walked away with millions. Now, after the horse is out of the barn, talk has started about strengthening regulation and oversight. I could go on but I doubt very much it would change anyone̢۪s mind.

Notice how the government let "market forces" determine the fate of BearStearns ... not.

It's amazing how "conservatives" are opposed to government regulation or interference with private enterprise except when they want a tax exemption or billion-dollar bailout -- sure glad we've kicked out all those welfare spongers though ...

I audit mortgage loans for a living (those that have gone into default), it is so nice to hear someone outside of my office say something other than its the "banks fault." Thank you.

An interesting article

There was also a good article in the Wall Street Journal but I can't find it at the moment.

BTW, its a common misconception that adjustable rate loans are primarily the ones going into default, 65-70% of the loans I see are fixed rate, non sub-prime.

When the 'good old USA' rides in for a bail-out, I feel my pocket getting lighter.

Paris' approval rating couldn't be much lower than the clowns(both sides of the aisle)we have in Washington now.
