I have a 50-200 lens which I love dearly and i dropped it on the carpet yesterday. I picked it up and heard something rattling but it seemed to take pictures just fine. Today I was manually zooming in and out and suddenly, when I turned the outer barrel (not sure what to call it), the lens (or inner barrel) would no longer extend or retract. I have to grasp the end where the lens hood connects to get it zoomed to where I want it. What the heck do I do now? Am I supposed to send it to a service center? I feel so lost and feel like I have a seriously injured friend now lol. Anyone experience something like this? Help help!

After viewing your photo in your user profile, I believe you should send it in for repair.

Quietly wrap it in bubble wrap. Package it carefully in a cardboard box. And send it off to the nearest Oly repair center for repair. Unfortunatly you damaged her good and she needs to see a qualified tech. Wish I could give you an address to send it to, however in my time with Oly gear I wasnt able to break any of it and didnt have the need for it.

Ugh I figured this is what was gonna happen. I am gonna call tomorrow to get an estimate of how much this is going to cost. I've just lost my shooting buddy and I wanna cry :(

I think he is doubting your profile photo is actually you. Which means he would say the same thing to me, or himself for that matter.

No problem. I had that lens and loved it dearly as well. Its a fantastic lens. I would bet if you call someone they are going to give you a blanket $$$ amount, but in reality they wont be able to give you a hard figure until you ship it to them.(At least canon wont) Most places will give you a free estimate you just pay shipping both ways if you dont have it fixed. Although with the price of that lens(at least what I paid a few years back) repairing it will be alot cheaper then buying another new one.
